If you are looking for a home now..are you busting your butt so you can...
...meet the homebuyers credit?
I know you have to be in contract by end of April of 2010...but I am feeling such a sense to "meet this deadline" per se...
anyone else feel this way?

We def made it more of a priority because of the credit.
I mean, it is no small potatoes - it is around 8 grand which is a lot.
However, I wouldn't "settle" on a place just for the tax credit - it is not THAT much money, KWIM?
For us, we'll probably use it to put wood floors in our new home. The whole place is totally updated - but no wood floors. They have pretty carpet - new and quality - but I'm not really a wall-to-wall carpet person.
We already are in contract so we qualify. We'll be closed by the end of March.

I need something by Aug 1 when my lease is up
I don't think we are going to make it- but we could
I am hoping one of our friends lists his condo in long beach for a decent price - if not we are looking at foreclosures out of LB and I am not super in love with anything

I DEF felt this way when it was going to expire after nov 30th... we knew we wanted a condo in a certain community and they only had a handfull on the market to choose from, so really, we chose the one in the best condition... i love the condo, but we def did make the deciision much faster than we prob would have otherwise!
We first started looking in person on 9/5, saw it on 9/8 and had an accepted offer by 9/12... Went into contract on 9/28
So we had 2 solid months for the mortgage process and to close, and still didnt make it on time... We closed on 12/3 so thank god that credit was extended!!

Re: If you are looking for a home now..are you busting your butt so you can...
I was in the market since June 09. I never allowed the credit to "push" me. 8k is small peanuts when buying a house. It would be nice to get it but it has had no true baring on my purchase time frame. IMO 8k doesn't buy an extra bedroom, or add a bathroom, something that we felt we should keep looking for if we wanted it. I would be upset if I settled on a house just so I got 8k, but didn't get out of the house what I actually needed; if that makes sense.
