Re: before you bought your home..did you love it on MLS?
There were no inside pics of the house on MLS. Which was a good thing b/c I might not have gone to see it - it was in real bad shape and priced just out of our price range.
But there was something that hit me when I saw it on MLS and knew I had to go see it. Once I was in the house we were able to look passed the mess and dirt (most of the work we did was just cosmetic) and being that it was a mess we got the price down.

Re: before you bought your home..did you love it on MLS?
Our house was completely empty when it was listed on MLSLI. I was kind of indifferent to it when I saw the listing, but it was going to be our first day looking, and I was trying to get to as many open houses as possible. When we saw our house the first time, we thought it had potential, but we were just beginning to look. It was also out of our price range. That was in September '07. By November '07, we had looked at many more houses and had a better idea of what we wanted. We went back to look at our house again, and I knew it was the one.

Re: before you bought your home..did you love it on MLS?
Ah, yes. House #1 We loved it on MLS. We loved it when we saw it the first time in April of 09 - well, at least, I did.
I think the biggest issue for us was that the owners had SO much furniture, and the paint and carpet was not in good condition, so it made the house look older than it was.
We found another house, #2, that DH liked more (although I never told him) and made an offer on BOTH houses. We got accepted offers on both and went with the other house. That deal fell through right before we went to conctract.
We kept looking... I always had #1 in the back of my mind, but I never really said anything to DH, I guess I just figured he didn't love it like I did.
Then we found OUR house. Our dream house. It was perfect. And the owners never accepted our offer
The REA for that house suggested that we look at this other house nearby... which happened to be house #1. We didn't even realize it was still available, because this was nearly 2 months later.
We went back and looked a 2nd time. The owners must have thought we were nuts We made the same offer as the first time and it was accepted again. We closed 2 months later
Now, we can't picture ourselves in any other house. A fresh coat of paint in every room, re-finished hardwood floors, and new carpet in 2 rooms, and it's like a brand new house.

Re: before you bought your home..did you love it on MLS?
Nope, we weren't interested in it at all. It looked really small online and neither one of us knew what an "extended cape" meant, so we did not realize that thoses house are longer rather than wider. We actually drove by it and did not think much of it becasue of how it looked from the street.
Then, we added to our list one weekend when there were a TON of open houses in the 'hood that we were interested in, when we had an empty block of time. We were so surprised when we discovered a spacious house inside and a great sunroom in the back!
I love our house and cannot believe that we almost missed getting it.......

Re: before you bought your home..did you love it on MLS?
It was clean and affordable at that time. We bought during the bubble in 2005 when every house under $400k in the towns we were looking in were dumps for that price. The house was priced at $359k.
We went to go look at it and were happy that there was an attached garage, extended kitchen, and HUGE back yard. We knew that within time the other things could be changed.....
The pictures on MLSLI showed a very plain house with white walls, tan carpet, and linolium in the kitchen, no tile in the bathroom. It was an estate sale.

Same here.
I'm glad I didn't get an opportunity to view it on MLS because I probably would have written off just for being a ranch (we wanted a victorian or colonial). It also needed major updating, so I'm sure we would have been put off by that as well. Our realtor pushed us to see it just for the location and I'm so glad he did!!!

Re: before you bought your home..did you love it on MLS?
when we saw it online I thought the kitchen was pretty nice compared to some other kitchens were were seeing, but the pics were deceiving. The house was gross and not kept up well at all, but they had to sell so we got them down $25K. It really needed a lot of work.....a new roof was one of them.

Re: before you bought your home..did you love it on MLS?
Yes. DH found the house on MLSLI and said this is our house.
Our REA took us to see about 5 houses in the area, this house being the first one and after we saw it, we didn't want to see the others.

Re: before you bought your home..did you love it on MLS?
DH loved it on MLS and saw a ton of potential.....i was so-so. When we saw it in person we both "knew" it would be our house.
We saw sooooo many things that looked great on MLS and then when we got there

Re: before you bought your home..did you love it on MLS?
yes. and we had 12 houses lined up that day to see, 8 or so before it. I kept saying this isn't as nice as the house we are going to see today. I knew it was going to be the one.

Re: before you bought your home..did you love it on MLS?
nope! i did see it on the mls but glossed over it b/c it didn't impress me, and thus forgot about it. our REA took us to it b/c it was in our top choice neighborhood and only remembered it b/c of the fireplace inside.
I don't know that we've ever been "head over heels" in love with the house, but we love it for the potential it has that we are slowly and patiently working on.

Re: before you bought your home..did you love it on MLS?
Our realtor recommended the house and i recognized it when we went in from seeing pics on MLS - frankly i had passed it by from the photos because the pictures weren't very clear and there was way too much furniture in it to get an idea of the space. Seeing it in person made all the difference!
On the flip side.. there were plenty of houses we saw on MLS that we were drawn to, then when we saw them in person they were a let down

Re: before you bought your home..did you love it on MLS?
I think you can get an idea on MLS, but you really have to see the houses in person to judge.
We looked on and off for over 2 years and I can't even remember the # of houses we saw. We were surprised both ways. Some looked great online and were a disappointment in person and some were so-so online, but looked much nicer in person.
Our house looked OK online, but we liked it so much more in person.

Re: before you bought your home..did you love it on MLS?
I knew what area I wanted to move to (a small neighborhood within a small town), and checked MLS every day for new listings. When this house popped up - with no pictures yet - in the exact section I wanted to be in, at a reasonable asking price, with the number of bedrooms and bathrooms I was after, I called DH to come see the listing and said, "as long as this place isn't crumbling down, I want it!" I made an appointment to see it that weekend and stalked the listing every day to see when they'd add photos. Oh, and I drove by the outside to see what it looked like in person! And it was adorable. So before I even set foot inside, and before I saw one photo of the place, I was in love.
