Re: If you live in Florida
my dad lives in tarpoon springs. he lived there once before and came back to NY. he recently moved back there, and can't say enought good things about it.
I just went to visit him in December, and it was a nice "affordable" area. and its right on the coast. it has a "town" and its close to Tampa Airport. He took us to clearwater which was close as well and BEAUTIFUL!! I would totally buy in clearwater but I think it might be expensive.
good luck!!

My parents are in the Spring Hill area and they love it. They are in a gated community that is all ages....not a ton of kids but there are some.

The crux of Chris' family is in St. Petersburg and St. Pete Beach. We love it there, we were going to move, but the FDNY called
We still think about it though.....

That is what is going on with us. DH and I both lived down south before we met and had always planned to move back but then he got the job with NCPD. We still think about it all the time and we both love the lifestyle and weather, its just so hard to walk away from his job.

I never have...I dragged my feet b/c of my Grandmother, she passed away and 1 week later, Chris got hired, so we stayed...
Can he transfer? Its not the same for Chris, but PD, they always need, right??

Some of the departments in the areas we are looking at, start off pretty decent, with a nice increase. With his job experience and with his military history, they are really interested, but DH still sees that pay cut and it kills him. I try explaining to him that our cost of living will be a lot less and that will make up the difference but he is so scared.

Yeah, I don't blame him, but the cost of living is less, and if he has a steady job, with increases and benefits, then I am sure it is do-able....
I think our only choice is going down in 2025 when Chris retires
