We have a basement, which was non-negotiable. I do wish it was finished but I love having it for storage.
We don't have a garage but I'm OK with that right now. In Chicago, garages face the alley and you have to trek through your yard to get into the house. We were very lucky to find a house with a side driveway which is uncommon here. Our next house must have an attached garage, though

I have a basement and a garage. I love having them. When I move to my forever home, I will need at least 1, if not both. The storage space I have in invaluable.

We have both a full basement and a garage. I couldn't live without them. Where else would my dh put all of his junk err stuff.

I do not have a basement but I grew up with one and my parents used it for junk. So if I want one now it would not be for storage it would be for the extra living space, den, playroom etc. I would say one or the other for storage is nice.
