those who have redone the kitchen....

realistically how much was the entire project??

our kitchen is soooo small with a ton of wasted space bc its technically an eatin but the dining room is right there.....

so i want to reclaim that space as kitchen and need all new appliances and a new floor too........so i need to see if our current savings have us any where near the ball park

ps we are very handy people and will probably do most of the work ourselves

TIA

Re: those who have redone the kitchen....

ours was roughly 30,000, but we had some electric and plumbing redone, plus added new tiles to the entry way.

Depending on materials you could do it for a lot less, especially if you do the work yourselves. 1/3 of the cost was the demo and installation...1/3 cabinets and 1/3 other materials

Re: those who have redone the kitchen....

we did an ikea kitchen, which is FANSTASTIC, we did the entire kitchen, cabinets, floors, appliances for under 5000. We did all the work ourselves also.

Our kitchen is small, DH did ALL the work.

We got our cabinets from HD.

We paid around $5000 for everything -
gutted to the bare studs, new walls, ceiling, installed cabinets, appliances, electrical, fixtures, granite counter top, new floor - tiling, painting, backsplash & crowning molding.

our friend and DH did their kitchen new solid wood cabinets and tile floor, granite counters and it was around 5K they did all the work except granite counters. they bought the cabinets from lakeville industries. they do the layout for you and then they draw you a diagram that matches the cabinets so its very easy to install yourself, but your DH would probably need another guy to help him as the cabinets are heavy to lift high onto the wall. the price doesn't include appliances though

We were around $30K also - but we had a contractor do all the work (we painted). All new appliances, new sheetrock on walls, floor, ceiling, cabinets from Consumers.

I'm sure if you do the work yourselves you can save a ton. Our contractor was about 1/3 of the total cost (cabinets the other 1/3 and appliances/other materials making up last 1/3)

Re: those who have redone the kitchen....

Ours was about $15-20K with all new cabinets, granite, wood floors and new appliances. We had a contractor do it. If I had to do it all over again, I would do it ourselves and save so much money. GL!

ETA: Ikea has different grades of cabinets from my understanding. Maybe you can get the better cabinets, but still save money in the end.

Our contractor got them from Flushing. There are a lot of cabinet place in Flushing. Not sure if I would recommend that route though. We hope that they last for many years to come, but we aren't sure. Our contractors wasn't the greatest. Chat Icon There are so many places in Nassau & Suffolk to look first. GL! Chat Icon

Re: those who have redone the kitchen....

This varies so much depending on what line of cabinets you chose, what appliances, type of countertops etc., but I can tell you we're quickly finding out kitchens are insanely expensive. We've budgeted 50K for our current kitchen renovation—this is for mid-level cabinets and high-end appliances—and we're now realizing it's going to be a challenge to do what we want for that budget. That being said, we could probably go for lower quality items and finish our kitchen for 30K, I'm just not willing to do that.

i completely understand what you are saying and we are just reaching out to get that range of costs to redo a kitchen, we definitely dont mind cutting costs in some place and not in others

thanks

Completely agree. We just finished our total kitchen renovation (gutted and 1 and a half walls down) and it easily came to about $43,000. Labor alone was a big bulk of it ($17,000).

Re: those who have redone the kitchen....

We are doing ours right now, we're not taking down any walls except for removing the soffets and rebuilidng the wall in that area, got all-wood cabinets and planning on granite countertops, tile flooring, only new range and microwave (already had new fridge and dw). we are budgeting around $8,000 and are on track thus far (doing all the work ourselves).

So happy you posted this b/c we are going to wind up doing it too.. we will have to DIY. someone on here posted a website where she bought her cabinets and i fell in love with one set of them. 10X10 kitchen is 1799.00 for cabinets (+10% if they put them together). which is cheaper than costcos equivalent by 1000.00. i have the site bookmarked at work. i'll have to post it tomorrow.

I spent 40-41k using someone we new for labor which was 13k. We added an island, 2 pendant lights, hi-hats and under the cabinet lights.

Cabinets were cherry wood from Kraftmaid (fully overlay which costs more) were approx. 13k The cabinets are ceiling hight with crown molding and have lots of special drawers, pullouts, lazy susan, etc)

Appliances were 7k (GE Cafe)

Granite was 4k

All the rest was was a few thousand (tiles, faucet, new window for room, etc)

This was me! It's Closeout Cabinets

Ours are the Society Hill line and for us they were $3600 as opposed to $6000 for the same layout in a low line of American Woodmark at HD. And they're solid wood! Only thing is we got them unassembled and DH said it was a little tricky b/c there were no instructions. He and FIL were able to figure it out though!

wedid ours 3 years ago, but it was $17K. We had someone come to drywall, move plumbing, electricity and install granite. We did the rest ourselves (demo, hanging cabinets, backsplash, trim)

Re: those who have redone the kitchen....

We did the exact same thing as you want to do and spent about $10k.

Our kitchen is a square, but there were only cabinets in an L shape and one part of the L is open to the DR so it only had lower cabinets. We added an entire corner of cabinets where there originally was an eat-in space (3 uppers, 2 lowers - one being a lazy susan and a full pantry with pull out drawers). We got our cabinets from Home Depot and DH and his brother installed them. I highly recommend HD, the designer was great to work with, we got a lot of cabinets for the money (and upgrades like cushion close drawers, glass fronts, etc) and the price was right!

We kept the ceramic tile floor that was there, but basically did everything else... paint, cabinets, granite counters, tile backsplash, new SS appliances, sink, etc. Let me know if you want the breakdown of what we spent. We did everything ourselves except installing the granite.

We are actually in the process of this now - picked out the cabinets and were just measured
I think when it is all said and done cabinets - Kraftmaid from HD are going to be around 7k
We are doing all of the work ourselves - I bought SS appliances for about 2k from PC Richards - I bought a washer & dryer as well, so I worked out a good deal
We are gutting the kitchen and redoing the walls and the floor
I have a gally (sp) kitchen and I think when all is said and done, including appliances, it will be about 12k

Re: those who have redone the kitchen....

We spent about 35K - cabinets from Kraft Maid.

18K cabinets - Consumers

6500 ish for appliances (GE profile)

4500 ish for countertop

rest was labor

If I could do it all over again - I'd spend the most money on getting custom cabinets and then I would skimp on appliances and countertop - you can replace those so much easier than cabinets.

Please - I urge you to look into custom. LOL - I haaaaaaaaaate my stock cabinets.

Even if you have a small budget - you never know...

Re: those who have redone the kitchen....

Labor is the killer, especially if you plan on move your plumbing and electric work. We will be renovating our kitchen this year but only replacing the counter top, adding backsplash, new paint, refinishing the floor and new appliances.

Re: those who have redone the kitchen....

I'm in the middle of total gut kitchen reno right now. My husband did the demo, framing, sheetrock w/ some help from family. Bro in law did the electric. We are having the cabinets professional installed as well as granite countertops and new wood floor. We did take down a wall to expand the kitchen and make the bathroom that's in the kitchen bigger. We only wanted to spend $20K but we will probably end up more in the $25- 30K range. Things really add up as the project goes! Good luck.

Hi,
Sorry to hijack but I just wanted to ask why you don't like your Kraftmaid cabinets? Only asking because I'm about to have mine installed and spent $12K on them! Is the quality bad?
