Re: Large Closets- what kind of doors?

We have a roughly 6' opening in DD's room. We have bi-fold doors. Don't have a pic handy, though. It's the type where each half of the door is hinged in the middle, so each door folds in on itself. We'll most likely do the same thing in our bedroom when I update the closets.

Not my house, but this is what I'm talking about:

I like these, but thought of something. When looking at your picture, on the left side, we have a wall. and closely nearby is a night stand.. this may hinder the space allowed for bi-fold (i will make adjustments in my room if necessary). do they open up all the way, meaning, can you reach something that is all the way against the wall when these doors are opened .. not worrying about DH as his arms are long, mine are short and stumpy. Here's a pic with one side fully open

It opens all the way, giving you full access to the entire opening, put it only comes out into the room 1/4 of the width of the opening.

I like these better than the sliding doors since you can open the entire closet. With sliding doors, half the closet is always blocked.

OH! i can't stand what we have... we have, ready for this.... THREE sliding doors for the entire closet. i think our closet is like 9 feet wide? i can't imagine right now if each door is two or three feet wide...

These are our bedroom closets on the right and left of the dresser:

(They used to be sliding doors before the remodel.)

The attached photo is of my son's room. I would have preferred the closet doors like our master bedroom, but the location of his closet made those types of doors awkward.

Re: Large Closets- what kind of doors?

i did sliding doors, i know dh would get annoyed at the bifold doors and break them since he has in the past.

the only thing i didn't like is that it isn't a full length of doors with a dividing poll that my contractor insisted on having. Inside is completely open there is no wall so it makes no sense.

I think if the doors went the entire way across without the divider in the middle the doors get too heavy and wont work properly.

To the OP if your opening is 9' without a divider you might have this problem which is why there is 3 doors now. You might have to put a small divider wall in the opening.

If you have the room go for regular doors.

Re: Large Closets- what kind of doors?

They aren't the nicest of bi-fold doors, but this is what we have in the apartment in our house. The small wall is what another poster was talking about I believe. But there is no wall inside the closet. The closet is completly open inside. Hope that makes sense.

This is a really really really good point. i will have to tell DH. he won't be happy about that. nor will i because my closet is UGLY, U-G-L-Y.... (what was that goldie hawn football movie?)

We have the same type of doors - I honestly would have preferred the bi-fold. I actually told DH to get bi-folds but he just had our contractor order whatever his own home had... Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I lose so much space with these types. Bi-fold or sliders would have been so much better.
