Poll - How many homes did you look at before you found "The One"

Curious.

Already, I can see that it's like finding a spouse - it's an investment, right?

it needs looks, charm, personality, it needs to suits your needs and meet your expectations, and while it will may have flaws, you know you can make some minor improvements..but you definately don't want to have to do a complete renovation unless you have time and patience.

We probably looked at 20 or so, found our house, but it already had another accepted offer. We looked at 20 more houses and then found out the original house we liked was back on the market.

Well we were only looking a co-ops so that seriously narrowed the search down AND we're only looking to stay here for about 5 years so we looked at 3 units in one co-op complex (I'm not even kidding). We're apparently impulse shoppers when it comes to real estate purchases.

I think around 10...I could tell from looking online what I liked and didn't like for the most part...

We looked at least 8 in person

and weeded out more than 25 online and just by driving by.

At least 50 probably more. I looked for about 9 months.

I think we saw about 40-50 houses before we found the one we are in contract for. However, we placed bids on 2 other houses before this house, but neither worked out. In hindsight, I am very happy those houses didn't work out!

Alot but we also were very select. We wouldnt consider a house unless it was in the right location (no busy roads) and right size (inside and out). This helped narrow our selection down. Alot of times we would do a drive by first and deciee whether or not to view it. We both work, have kids, so we didnt have alot of time to just look...

I would make a list of the things you absolutely must have and that will help refine your search!

Our house was the first one we looked at.

We loved "the bones" of it and knew we might be able to get a great deal because the house was disgusting and not many people would be able to look beyond that, plus I'd been watching it sit on the market for a while and knew the seller was desperate to sell. But before we made an offer, we literally looked at every house for sale in our price range in our preferred areas of Nassau County to make sure it really was the one for us. So, I'd say about 20 houses later we made our offer.

I think we looked at 4 houses before we saw the one we bought but my dh is a realtor/mortgage broker so he did all the research and narrowed it down before we even went to look

A lot.

We stared looking into co-ops and condos. Then we realized that we could buy a house. Weekends were packed with open houses until we found ours. I didn't keep a tally, but I'd guess that we saw at least 25.

We looked for 8 months and saw about 5-8 houses each week. Don't rush the process eventually your perfect house will come along. Remember we live on Long Island where houses have been around anywhere from the 1920's till today, it's def not like HGTV where you look at 3 beautiful houses and you pick from there.

We looked on and off for about 2 years..........most of them were drive by's, because when you actually drive to the house, you kinda get a feeling if you don't want to waste your time going in it or not? Whether its the house itself, area, etc.

About 1/4 of them we actually went in. We probably didn't walk in to more than 20 houses in the 2 year period.

we saw about 50 houses in 2 months....it was effective to just driving by some too!
