Peapod

Has anyone used Peapod for their groceries? What are your experiences? Any pros/cons?

Re: Peapod

I love it and never go into the store for a big food shopping. I shop the sales first and have saved so much money on impulse buying. Definitely give it a try!

Love it, very convenient and I find that we save money each week because I don't impulse buy as much online as I do in the store. The money we pay to have it delivered is far less than all the extras I tend to throw in the basket each week when I am in the store.

Also, I feel like the $6-7 dollar delivery fee is small, compared to the amount of time I save each week. Honestly, it takes me a couple of hours to food shop, so for $6-7, I am saving a ton of time. Now that I have my staples saved, I can just go in and quickly add what I need that week.

One thing I noticed though, you have to order a few days in advance to get a prime delivery time, like early Saturday morning. Other than that, its a nice service.

I use them. It is so much easier than going to the store esp with young kids or in bad weather.

Pros - you don't have to go to the store - you can do it online very quickly - it keeps your old shops so you can go to your old orders and get your normal staples. It is delivered right to your door and they will bring it into your kitchen if you want. Esp great in the snow etc. Also great if you are sick since they carry medications like tylenol, asprin, etc, as well as diapers, etc so if you have a sick child or are sick yourself you can get your food and supplies and not have to go out.

Cons - there are items that they don't have. You can have them substitute but I find sometimes the substitutes aren't as good - or they just don't deliver something. i.e. you order say baby carrots - sometimes they will give you a different brand or just NONE at all.

I had issues for a long time at our old home where they were coming 1 - 2 HOURS BEFORE our window (so say you had an 8-10pm window they would come at 6 or 7pm instead).

Not the best for things like milk or produce sometimes. They give you things sometimes with sooner expiration dates than you would get in the store.

I use it for my main things, cereal, bread etc. Then either DH or I will go to the butcher for meats and do a 5 min shop to pick up the diary and produce which is MUCH quicker than doing it all at one shop in the store.

Re: Peapod

Thanks for all the responses!

Now one more question...

If I only do it once in awhile, is it worth it? Do I have to commit to a certain number of deliveries?

Nope you don't have to commit to anything.

Re: Peapod

No - you can do it as often as you like. Once you get one delivery they will probably give you coupons for free deliveries in the future.

Re: Peapod

I use them but not for my full grocery shopping.. some produce and meats I like to get in person as needed. I always manage to find coupons for free deliveries online. I I don't like that I can't use food coupons if I have some. I usually tip about $3.00.

I usually tip around $5. But a little more if I get a lot - when pepsi is on sale I really stock up. Chat Icon

The only thing I dont like about peapod is that you have to order early. I placed an order one Saturday afternoon around 4.30 and couldn't schedule delivery until Monday b/c of their cut off time.

Waldbaums has delivery service in some areas also - you can get same day for a few extra bucks. That's really convenient.

You can use food coupons, I do all the time. Give them to the driver.

Re: Peapod

It is super convenient can that's what I like about it. I get home from work late so I always take the 6-10 p.m. drop off time and I usually save $2 on the delivery fee. They take manufacturer's coupons too. The best part is they bring the groceries right into your house for you. I tip the guy $5.

There are 2 negatives I experienced. One is that they don't have the selection a regular grocery store has. For example, I like Lean Cuisine for lunch and they only have about 8-10 to choose from whereas at the store there is like 30-40 different ones. Same goes for yogurt. I also initially had a hard time figuring out produce when ordering it. I thought I would be ordering 1 lb. of tomatoes (for example) but I would get 1 tomato instead. Other than that, I really liked it.

Re: Peapod

I LOVE IT!

I tip $5 and with delivery fee of about 6 its still worth it. I would spend so much more money in the store. I do it about 1- 2 times a month of a big food shop and just run to the store for milk and salad as I run out in-between deliveries.

It saves so much time. I work too much to spend an hour at the super market.

My mom usually only does it around the holidays when the stores are crazy.

The dates are always good for me, sometimes better dates than I usually find in the store.

good luck!
