Those "starving artist" shows- are they worth it?
There are a few in our area happening this weekend and we need some artwork for our living room- it seems like the prices are great but I wonder about the actual selection.

I see commercials but the show itself has no site online- there is one in White Plains, one near LGA and one in Suffolk, I think, at area hotels.
After I posted this I did a little more reading and one person claims that these pieces are actually produced in Asian sweatshops.

Re: Those "starving artist" shows- are they worth it?
I went to one of them years ago and bought a painting. Of course when I went I realized that they werent "originals' that they were mass produced. I wasnt looking for that kind of art...I was looking for a painting that I could put in my living room.
From what I remember, the prices were pretty good. One thing I remember clearly, the prices for the frames were outrageous...so i went to Michaels and had it framed for 1/3 the price they were going to charge me

YES!! we bought a big beautiful picture for 89.00 then chose the frame and they did it all there for us. (frame costs extra). but, i would have paid more at bed bath and beyond for the same size.
it's totally worth going. besides it's going to be freezing this weekend and what better is there to do?
please go with patience. you do have to rummage through a bunch of paintings and look them over really good. some have different colors than others and some scratches.. but, it's worth it in my opinion.

We went to one in Suffolk last year...We will NEVER go again. The line was over an hour long & we were VERY disappointed with the selection. Maybe if you get there when it 1st opens you will have more luck.

We drove to one in Melville last year and didn't go in - the line was 2 hours long!

Thanks everyone- I think we are going to pass on this one in part because the closest one is still more than a half hour away. But I'll keep it in mind- thanks for the feedback!
