I'm in NJ and our trash collectors suck....what should I do?

We had a lot of boxes from Christmas, and because there was no trash pickup on Jan 1, we had a lot of garbage. Today was the SECOND time our trash men did not take our boxes. We flattened them and everything. They just left the boxes and because of this I ended up illegally dumping the boxes into a dumpster behind our dry cleaners. So annoying!

Can I complain to the township? I'm sorry, but I think the $20,000+ a year we pay in taxes should cover a few flattened boxes! UGH!

I am in NJ too and our boxes are only picked up on paper recycling days, not with regular trash. Have you checked with your township to see what your regulations are?

In my town I have to bring them to the recycling center. The town next to me, they can leave it out with garbage. It really doesn't make sense to me considering the recycling center isn't even in my town but the one that accepts the box. The 2 towns are also in the same county.

DH usually takes them to work and puts them in the dumpster they have for cardboard or if its not a lot I break them down small and put them in black bags.

I'm in NJ too, we also pay for trash pick up and $$$$$ in taxes. They do not take boxes. After our wedding we had alot of boxes which I folded and cut and put in trash bags. They did not take them, when I called to complain I was told (not so nicely), that they do not take boxes.

Our problem with that, is our recycling is picked up only once per month, and they do not pick up boxes. The only way to dispose the boxes are to take them ourselves to the recycling center which is only open 2.5 days a week from 10-4... So now, if we have any boxes, my cleaning lady takes them with her and puts them out with her recycling.

i would call, or see if your town has a website that might tell you waht the deal is... i'm in NJ, too and in our town, recycling pick up is a different day than trash pick up.
i usually just end up taking the stuff to the recycling center myself since its literally right across the street- that way i don't have to worry about tying them up and all that mess. and to me its worth recycling- i feel SOOO guilty when i throw something in the trash that i know should be recycled lol

for us, there is 1 day per month they will pick up boxes.

call your township office and see if they changed the rules for your area.

when we 1st moved to our house, we had so many boxes and couldn't wait for that 1 specific day so we flattened them down and folded them up and put them in bags in the regular trash.

this can just be added to the list of annoying things about NJ... like jughandle turns! lol

i know we have dedicated recycle days where i live...but our trashmen take everything and anything on the regular days. Even non broken down boxes. They even took a loveseat once. LOL.

We must not have the same garbage men because ours take EVERYTHING. I LOVE them. Although even with boxes, I try to shove them into black garbage bags and they take them. But I would call the town.

They're probably not allowed to take them or you're on some kind of schedule. But if you leave an envelope for them they'll take them, guaranteed.
