how to re-negotiate cablevision

Has anyone had any success lately with reducing their cablevision rate.

Verizon has some really good triple play offers but requires the 2 year agreement.

Is it as easy as quoting one of these offers to cablevision, or do you have to go thru the hassle of begining to sign-up with verizon and providing cablevision the confirmation number?

Thanks

Re: how to re-negotiate cablevision

dont let the 2 yr agreement with FIOS scare you cause if you want to go back to CV they will pay it for you. WHen we switched CV wouldnt do anything on the price but once we moved they offered us the world....we love FIOS and I still have HGTV!!!!

Call the cancellation number, not customer service. Explain how unhappy you are and how cheap other services are. Explain that you'd like to keep them, but.....

I had to argue with my guy on the phone, but I got it. My GF was getting all the HBO, Starz and and another station for like $15 a month cheaper. All I had was basic. I was Pizzed.

Re: how to re-negotiate cablevision

I signed myself up with Verizon and got a confirmation #. Then I called Cablevision and asked them what I needed to do, since I was switching over to Verizon (even though I never had any intentions of doing so). They asked why I was leaving, I explained the lower pricing and they then reduced my bill by about $40/$50. a month. I "agreed" to stay with them and canceled my Verizon order. It really is easy to get them to come down on your bill.

Re: how to re-negotiate cablevision

I posted about this a few months ago and they don't always respond to the threat of moving to Fios. They used to but what I heard was that so many people were unhappy with Fios and returning to CV and so that didn't work anymore. I only got them to reduce my phone and internet to the original rate of $30 but they would not change my family cable price. It was for my parents house and my dad had retired and I mentioned money problems etc and that they had been customers for 20 years, etc and it was still so hard. I hung up on one rep and called back later and had better luck. GL!

Hi, just tried the normal customer service number.

No Luck. I called FIOS already and had all the plan information and quoted it to them, but now they are saying that they cannot do anything about it.

Nor can thier supervisors change anything.

Will try again in a couple days with another agent.

Re: how to re-negotiate cablevision

we told them we were unhappy with what we were paying in comparison to Verizon. I was super nice and joking that its a recession so every penny counts and I love them but its hard earned money. The rep offered to reduce our bill or upgrade us to all the premium channels for the same price and he said for being nice..he'd give it to us for 2 years and if we ever decide we rather a bill decrease to just call back and he'd downgrade the channels back and reduce the monthly bill. So just be nice and try your luck...

Just make sure you take the name of the person and the things they promise you. We had a very bad experience with cable promising us things to stay with them that they then charged us for and I was stupid and didn't write enough down......needless to say we are now with FiosChat Icon .

Speaking with customer service won't get you anywhere. You have to call and speak with cancellations.

We just switched to FIOS when we moved b.c the new house had been wired for FIOS so we decided to give it a try. They made no effort to keep us and in fact told us not to bother switching b.c we would be back and would then have to pay a cancellation fee just to get back to them. So far we have had 2 issues but once they were fixed it has been fine. In fact the TV is much better than cablevision.

Just wondering as you say the TV on FIOS is much better than Cablevision?

In what ways, just wondering?

The main thing I HATE about cablevision is that it is so S L O W...

Every time I push the IO button it takes about 5 seconds to pull up the menu, then select the channel guide and another 5 seconds.

Comming from Queens and Time Warner, the second you push the menu its there, no waiting. You can really channel surf.

With cablevision its like channel crawling. Is FIOS better with that, because if so I am sold on them.

Well for us....

Our picture is actually much better than it was with cablevision and we had a good picture before. There are a LOT more channels (aside from movie channels which we don't get - we do have HBO and Cinemax for free for 3 months) - but the best is NO lag when you change channels it is so quick - unlike with cablevision - the HD channels took a while to connect.

Re: how to re-negotiate cablevision

CABLEVISION HAS TAKEN YEARS OFF MY HUSBANDS LIFE!!! I hate them!! Have we canceled? no- I'm not sure why! The bedroom TV is totally digitalized and cannot be watched despite being on our 3rd box. I am using my neighbors internet (because the poor guy doesn't know he needs a password) Ours never works!!!

My husband calls like once a week and they have been here 3x and a supervisor 1x. Nothing ever gets done but they def get there $150 a month from us.

Sorry for my personal rant. Carry on.

UPDATE

Hi everyone and thank you for your suggestions.

I did call the CANX dept of cable vision. They were more helpful than customer service. They offered 20 off our bill for 2 years.

I then called Verizon and basically signed up with them. With all the specials and discounts I calculated a savings of 716 dollars (including a credit off the 1st mo bill they offered).

Even w/ the 20 savings from cablevision it would be close to 500, savings w/ fios.

Additionally they are providing more for this price, DVR / HBO on demand / Battery backup for phone. Only a 1yr contract.

Anyway, thought I would share my success I hope w/ verizon, and can't believe how difficult cablevision has been.

Hope we don't regret it.

Re: how to re-negotiate cablevision

Which package did you get from Verizon? I currently have Cablevision Silver package (HBO/Starz), 1DVR & 1 standard box, phone and internet. Trying to decide which FIOS package is comparable.

Hi, I am not sure what the name is, but its the one advertized all over TV that ends the 16th of this month.

They give you a home DVR for free the 1st 3 months, 20$ off your bill for the 1st 6 months, and since I mentioned they offered a 50$ BJ's gift card if you signed up in BJ's, they gave an additional 50 credit the 1st bill.

The triple package with verizon is only 89.00 the first year, and 99.00 the years after.

Cablevision went up for me over 30 bucks after the 1st year.

I only have HBO though, not starz or encore, however you get HBO on demand for free unlike cablevision.

I had the cablevision silver plan, and as you can read from this post, am very unhappy with it.

The verizon is only a 1year contract now.

I hate cablevision, but remember their price INCLUDES the taxes, Verizon's doesn't.

See this is what is confusing about the FiOS bundle packages. Great they will give me a free home DVR for 3 months but then I get charged for it for the remaining 9 months of the contract? So your triple play will be $89 + taxes + $20 (home DVR) starting in month 4, correct?

Then starting in month 7 your triple play will be $89 + taxes + $20 (home DVR) + $20 (6 month $20 promo discount ends), correct?

I did the same thing - they asked for the confirmation number and then we got a free DVR and lots of other things for 99 a month !

Re: how to re-negotiate cablevision

Yes, sounds correct.

The agent over the phone calculated the billing for me,

it was about 92 (month 1-3)
112 (month 4-6)
132 (month 7-12)

all in all, it still was a savings over cablevison about 500 for the year.

after the 1st 3 months, you can return your DVR box to them for a standard box, which is only 5.99. Even if I decide to keep the DVR box, it is still comming out cheaper than my cablevision package.

My only loss will be encore/starz channels, however it will include HBO + ondemand free.

Called cablevision today again for info on where I can return the equipment, with my verizon confirm number. Still nothing to WOW about. He offered ways to cut my service to become more similar price to FIOS.

Since its only 1 year, I figure give it a try, its not like cablevision is going anywhere, and they will always have some deal.
