Ceiling Medallions

Good morning, everyone. Just purchased a chandelier for our dining room. I am having a hard time deciding what size/type of ceiling medallion to get. I tried posting a pic of the chandelier but since I'm not that computer savvy I'm having a hard time. The chandelier I purchased is the Celeste from Pottery Barn. It is 22" in diameter. If any of you have ceiling medallions, what size/style did you purchase? Do you think that it would look silly if I get a smaller medallion? Or should I stick with one that is basically the same diameter? And what color would you go with since the chandelier is a black iron? The ceiling is white. Should I go with white? Or black? I need help!! LOL!

TIA!!!!

Re: Ceiling Medallions

hey great question cause I bought the same chandelier off of overstock. I saw some ceiling medallions at home depot. I think white is better than black but im not sure on the style either. I hope someone can help us too :)

Im lookin at the picture ..do u think we really need one...it looks like it has a decent size one around it already...

I guess you could go without a medallion, but to me it is kinda plain looking without one. I did buy two at HD last night (a white one which is 21" in diameter) and a black scroll one (18" in diameter). It is so difficult to visualize it while trying to hold it up to the ceiling and not having the chandelier yet since I ordered it yesterday. As always, I wind up second guessing, LOL!

Re: Ceiling Medallions

For me I would do a white medallion. As for the style, what is the style of the chandelier? What is your style in the room. As for the size of it, I think that is up to personal taste, but I'm not sure you need one the same size as the chandelier? It might look weird but I'm not sure. GL!Chat Icon

Re: Ceiling Medallions

This one looks like it's the same size as the chandelier. Looks nice with it.

This one looks a little smaller

I think either way looks nice. I thinks it's your taste, the room, what you are looking for in the room, the feel of the room. HTH!

Here is one with a darker medallion. It's personal taste I think. The feel you want for the room.

Re: Ceiling Medallions

Is this the one you bought? Gorgeous. I could see going with a darker medallion if you want.

Yes! That is the chandelier I purchased. Thanks, Jen!!! You are such a sweetie and always so helpful. I love all the ideas you posted. I like the idea of the darker medallion, but I'm not sure if it would bring too much attention to the ceiling and take away from the fixture itself? So, maybe a white one?? I love the ones you posted.

Thanks so much!!!

Re: Ceiling Medallions

You can measure the ring of the chandelier that is going to attach to it and go from there.

You are welcome. awwww thanks.Chat Icon

What color are the walls?
What kind of furniture do you have?
How large is the room?
Do you have other black things in the room?
Do you have a picture of the room?

It's hard to say because it really is personal taste. Sometimes medallions make the chandelier even more beautiful and it just brings your eye up to the ceiling and is a real focal point in the room. Just something to think about. HTH! Chat Icon

My walls are a terra cotta shade (hard to explain) with white molding, I never seem to remember any of the names of the BM paints I buy. The dining room set is French Country in a rubbed vanilla color. I went with black accents including molding shelves and wrought iron candle scones on the walls to pick up the black pieces I have in the living room where the DR flows into. I will update my album tonight so I can give you an idea.

Thanks so much for your help! It is so appreciated especially since I am clueless, LOL!

I was just thinking about that as I was looking at medallions on line as they seem to come in different center sizes. I would hate to fall in love with one, get it and then it doesn't fit, LOL!

I have been looking at these as well. I think the bigger one would look nice. I think a small one ends up loking lost. I dont think a big one would ever take away from the beauty of the chandelier, I think it would only add to it to be honest. I think a white one would like nice with it. Either way really I dont think you can go wrong, they are so pretty and I think add so much to the look.

Edited to say: just saw what you said about white molding, I say go with the white then for sure.

I have a lot of wrought iron in my hosue too, I think we have the same taste Chat Icon

Can't wait to see pics or your DR. Sounds gorgeous. I think you could get away with the black medallion since you have all of that other black, but it could be over kill. KWIM?
