Infants that recently started eating cereal...
Is it okay to give rice cereal sometimes and oatmeal sometimes? We started her on oatmeal for a week, then when I went to NY my mom got the rice and she loves that. Today she's at IL's and they have oatmeal there. Just wondering if we should stick to one kind or it's okay to switch on and off... she's been eating cereal for about 3 weeks now.

I'm pretty sure its ok to switch on and off as long as there has never been a reaction to either one. 
How is she liking the cereal?

I would start one for about 3-4 days and if there is no allergy, try the next. After you are sure they are not going to cause her to have a reaction, I think it's fine to mix them. I mix them up too for variety and b/c rice cereal causes some constipation. Barley seems to get things moving.

I would say as long as she's gone a few days with each one exclusively with no reaction, it's fine to switch them back and forth.

LOVES it. She only gets it once/day right now (she's almost 5 months)... I know James is younger but is that what you do?

Yep! He gets it once a day - usually at his "dinner" feeding (between 5:30 and 6:00). 1 tablespoon of oatmeal or barley (he has a sensitivity to rice) and 2 tablespoons of formula and then his regular 8 oz bottle.

As long as you tried each for a few days and there was no reaction then I would say there's no prob switching back and forth.
