Infants with warmer body temperature

Derek always feels warm to me. It is driving me nuts because I feel like I can't gauge if he has a fever or not. TJ his cheeks and ears get bright red and hot and his hands get hot. When Derek gets a fever there are no clear signs. Maybe because he is so young still?

After he was in the hospital at 8 weeks and this past weekend when he got a fever the ped. told me to monitor his temp for 3 days to make sure the fever goes away. His temp. would range from 99.2 - 100.2. If someone had been holding him or if he was kicking his legs alot in his bouncy seat or playing on the play mat his temp would be in the higher range.

Does anyone else's infant have a higher body temp?

Re: Infants with warmer body temperature

All infants run a bit warmer than adults.. thats normal its partially because of faster metabolisms producing more body heat.

Its not usually considered a fever until their temp is 100.4 or higher

Yes..DS always ranges between 99-2 - 99.8
this morning he hit 100.1 but he's been stuffy and congested so i gave him some tylenol and it went back down to 99.8.

but thats his normal range for him.

DS is always warm...... he is 21 months.... now I feel like I can put my lips on his head and know if he has a fever or not.... I think you just get used to how your child is, ya know? He never Looks like he has a fever, but I can tell by feeling his head, and just by how he acts....

Re: Infants with warmer body temperature

I have the reverse, DSs normal temp ranges from 97.6-98.1. I take his temp pretty regularly so I know what his normal is and go from there.

For a regular kid a temp of about 101 is a fever, so for DS I assume about 100 is a fever
