Christmas gift giving from Santa or parents.....

When I was talking to one of my friends the other day she told me that a few gifts for her son were from Santa, and others from her. I got confused, when I was young ALL the presents under the tree were from Santa, and from the list that I wrote to him. I asked DH and he also said that he never heard of some gifts from Santa, some from the parents. He always got all his gifts from just Santa.

What do you all do, is this just something I never heard of?

I always received one gift from my parents at midnight on X-Mas morning (thats when the entire family, aunyts cousins, etc exchanged) and then I'd wake up in the morning to all my gifts from Santa.

We always had a mix, some were from my parents and then your big gift and a few other toys would be from Santa.

Re: Christmas gift giving from Santa or parents.....

Our family has a Christmas Eve party every year. My sisters and friends and I exchange with each other and each other's children. We also give our own kids one gift from 'us' that night. It is ALWAYS a pair of Pajamas to wear to bed on that night. We usually throw in something else small.. this year it was a SpongeBob bath kit with fizzy bath tabs, tattoos and a water shooter that we picked up for $5. Everything that comes on Christmas Day (the big stuff) is from Santa.

We got one big gift from parents and rest were from Santa. Now our gift from our grandparents was always from Santa and my Grandma always said that the gift was something that Santa forgot to leave us so they left it with them...this confused the hell out of me for a long time.Chat Icon

We give a present to DS on Christmas Eve from us..and he opens anything we have received at that point from friends and extended family. Christmas morning is all from Santa and then in the afternoon we exchange with family.

We always did a mix....

For my kids growing up the stockings were from Santa and a gift. The rest of the presents were from us....

Now that they are older only the stockings are from "santa" (they dont "believe" in santa any more)

As children, and even now, the gift tags are signed from Santa, Mrs. CLaus, Frosty, Rudolph, Jack Frost, Mom or Dad.

Santa brought the majority of gifts. But always a few big items from my parents.

We follow the same tradition.

Re: Christmas gift giving from Santa or parents.....

Growing up our tradition was to go to our Grandparent's house for Christmas Eve along with all of my aunts, uncles and cousins....at 11:30 they'd quarantine us into the bedroom so Santa could come. They'd bang pots and pans pretending he was coming down the chimney. Then we'd come out and all of the gifts would be under the tree. But we couldn't open them until midnight. At that point we'd open all of the gifts from our extended family.

Then the next morning we would open everything from Santa (a/k/a/ my parents)

As kids Santa gave us toys and mom and dad gave us clothes.....

this way if the clothes needed to be returned we didn't question how mom had the receipts and why they were from the store and not the north pole....Chat Icon

we also got a pair of pjs and a Christmas ornament on Christmas Eve from mom and dad

DH thinks they should all be from Santa but I think since it's the Season of giving and we are trying to teach her that, there should be at least one gift from us. We are giving to our parents and everyone else so it makes sense that we give to our DD too.

I'm the one doing all the shopping and wrapping, so I won.
