Hair Dye Question.. I'm SO ANNOYED! - kinda long.. sorry
So on Saturday morning I got my hair dyed and cut. I should have known better because everytime I get it dyed there I HATE it! But all I do is get a single process dark color.. so what could be SO hard right? WRONG
I have dark hair.. but I get greys, so all I really want to do is dye my hair to cover the greys. My hair is almost black, and I don't always love how black dyes my hair because it sometimes looks shoe polishy.. So I said I want it dark as always but with a hint of dark deep burgundy when the light hits it. I called it cherry coke.
She puts something on my roots first, then puts something else on my ends. 30 minutes later I get rinsed and run downstairs for a cut. I look in the mirror and my hair is orange on top and dark on the bottom.. NOT cute. I go back up to show the girl who did it and she's rude about it and tells me my hair never takes like it's supposed to... She proceeds to put something on my roots which I can only imagine is a semi permanent.. so when it rinses out, won't it be orange again? Whatever.. i'm so annoyed and want out of there I don't care. They rinse my hair and I run back downstairs.. it looks better, but not perfect.
So I didn't wash my hair until Monday morning... if I told you the amount of red dye that rinsed out of my hair you wouldn't believe me. Whatever.
Today I wash it again, and more red rinses out. Now my hair looks red/orange on top again and dark on the bottoms.
Now my question... would you do an at home dye - semi permanent- 3 days after you got it colored at a salon? I do NOT want to go back there and sit there for her to give me dirty looks and pretend it's my fault, but I don't want to walk around with my hair like this.
Thoughts?

you shouldnt color it at home after that. if you use the semi permanent on top, it could make your ends really dark. if you just try to do the root, you wont get a good match. call the salon and tell the desk the situation and maybe someone else can do the color.

Uck, I didn't even think about that... I believe the bottom is a semi as well.. still doesn't make a difference? I'm going to end up going somewhere else and paying again.. Now I'm even more annoyed!
Thanks!!

I agree, definately have someone else correct the color at the place you went to and after this I would find a new place to go have your hair dyed.

Oh that stinks! I wouldn't attempt to fix it at home- sounds like there is too much going on. BUT I wouldn't go back there either. I'd try to find another salon- maybe a friend's recommendation- and have them correct it.

DO NOT attempt to fix it yourself - Go to a DIFFERENT salon and have it fixed by someone who knows what they're doing.
Yes, everyone's hair is different, but for a colorist who has worked with you before, she SHOULD know AND anticipate how your hair will take to color and mix your color from there - Not and tell you that your hair never 'takes the color right' - it's HER job as the "professional" (and I use that term loosely) to know what is going to work for YOUR hair. -
And IF your haid CAN'T be done a certain color, she should TELL you that -
My sister tells me all the time - what I can and can not do with my light blonde hair - When I tell her I want to do A, B, C - she'll flat out tell me, - Your hair is going to take to brassy, it's going to look good for a week and then be orange, the color isn't going to take the right way - the process to get that color is going to be too damaging to your hair - whatever ...........

If she TOLD YOU your hair never takes color "right" then she should KNOW not to treat you like every other head of hair out there.
Go somewhere else to get it fixed. Never go back.

There is a place in Queens (Bayside) that handles color correction. I cant help but rave about it b/c they saved my hair after a disaster. FM if you want the info! :)

Go back and have them fix it just not the same person.
And I do know from personal experience that red dye always washes out. I have dyed my hair red multiple times and there is always red in the shower for the first few washes so I dont think that part of it is defective, I think the colorist has no idea how to color your hair.

I would go back there and get my money back and tell them you are going somewhere else to have it fixed.
Then go get it fixed.
Do some lowlights instead of the cherry coke thing.
