Re: Do you have a favorite childhood Christmas?

We have video of my brother and I singing jingle bells next to the christmas tree in our pjs. He didn't want me to sing, so he kept putting his hand over my mouth and I kept cracking up through having his hand over my mouth.

After my sister was born, when she was around 5 years old. She came into my bed on xmas morning to wait for my parents to say it was ok to get up. My brother woke up shortly after her and we still weren't allowed to get up, so he came in my room and we all fell back asleep on my bed. My parents came downstairs to find us all warm and cozy waiting to see what Santa brought.

Re: Do you have a favorite childhood Christmas?

One year my father did a scavenger hunt for us with clues in a poem form or puzzle form to find our big gift. I remember that I would go to each spot and find the clue to the next clue and so on. The last one said something along the lines of "...in the basement, by the _ _ _ is where it W A S " and it was in father's workshop so if you unscrambled it it said SAW and it was by his table saw. I wish I could remember the exact clues bc it was super creative. I will def do it with my kids when they get a little older. It was a walkman (back in the day when a walkman was a hot & expensive gift LOL) so I was old enough to not believe in Santa anymore.

Re: Do you have a favorite childhood Christmas?

I have several but thereis one that stands out the most.

One Christmas morning I woke up early, before my mom and brother. I went out into the living room and my dad had the Christmas tree, and village all lit up, the video camera up and ready on the tri-pod. My mom had already set the huge table for Christmas at our house with the whole family. I just spent that time with my dad waiting for everyone else, talking in really hushed voices. I even remember getting a hot dog bun and toasting it with butter while waiting. One of my favorite memories. Chat Icon

Re: Do you have a favorite childhood Christmas?

I once got a Rocking Horse that I loved desperately. I remember that year so clearly because it was still dark when my sisters and brother woke me and my baby sister up. I remember seeing all the presents as we came down the stairs but the rocking horse wasn't wrapped.. he just had a big bow and a tag that said "For Jeannie". I couldn't be bothered with anything else. I named him Billy Joe and played with the thing CONSTANTLY. I kept it until I was like.. 12 and my brother took it outside and used the space between it's ears as a tee for his baseball. He hit it too low and the whole head flew off. He thought it was the funniest thing ever. Jerk.

One year I got a new 10 speed bike (PINK!) and a Commodore 64. That year ranked right up there.

Every Christmas was pretty special.. my dad would climb on the roof and stomp around. He'd bang jingle sticks near the window and my mom would flash a red light at the window (Rudolf). It was very exciting. Santa would always leave a note for us - we do the same for our boys.

Re: Do you have a favorite childhood Christmas?

these are all so beautiful, i want to cry.

christmas was never like that at my house. we'd just have a HUGE party on christmas eve and unwrap presents at midnight. i never believed in santa. don't get me wrong, i always loved christmas and my family.

my favorite christmas memory is of my son. he was two, almost three. his godmother (my cousin) got him teletubbies pajamas... along with other stuff.

when he opened the pajamas, he got SOOOOOO excited! he jumped out of his batman pajamas and put the teletubies pajamas on! he was so little and so cute. that boy was just the happiest i have ever seen him, at that very moment.

it's the best christmas memory of my life!

I am a beast who was thinking selfishly of my OWN childhood Christmas memories... I sometimes forget I am making memories for my kids each year.

Re: Do you have a favorite childhood Christmas?

One year I got this HUGE Barbie house...my dad called it the condo. It was white with pink trim and was so big it came in three pieces, it took up like half of my room. I played with it for sooooo long and my parents still have it packed away in their house

Re: Do you have a favorite childhood Christmas?

My grandmother's cookies.
Chat Icon

She's dead now. I tried to reach out to her years ago but she was really sick with Cancer and before that there was family drama that kept her from wanting to speak to me. We made amends before she passed and I'm happy for that Chat Icon but DANG IT I wanted that receipe. I keep trying to get it from the other family members. They only have it in MASSIVE quanities (like pounds instead of cups)

Sweet sugar and cinnamon on top, but not too sweet of a cookie under. Messy and yummy and fills my head with xmas meaning.

I remember watching her roll out cookie dough and put in little designs in the centers layer by layer then rolling it back up to make xmas trees or snowmen. Then she'd bake those sugar cookies and I was ALWAYS amazed at her skill.

My grandma was a cookie baker with her hubby until he was tragically killed years before I was born. So easily I can say cookies make me FEEL the xmas spirit.

Special Xmas present that still rings in my head of joy? haha The Easy Bake Oven!

Still have the first xmas present from my hubby too Chat Icon

ETA: special xmas moment? Laying on the ground under the xmas tree and looking up into the lights while they played those xmas carols Chat Icon It means a lot because I did this the very first time i had a place of my own. It was a tiny little tree but it was mine. And I sat alone in my apt with my xmas tree lit in a dark room listening to xmas carols and looking up from the floor and into the pretty colors. I felt so at peace.

I remember reading about all the wonderful Christmas traditions that you do with your children. And you probably got some of those traditions BECAUSE you had such wonderful childhood Christmas memories Chat Icon No need to feel bad. YOUR memories are root of all the memories that you make with your kids. That's how traditions go on and on. And that is how you know your kids will keep on doing these traditions with their children. Chat Icon

As for me, I only started celebrating Christmas when I started dating DH. But I remember my first Christmas at my ILs. They got me a stocking with my name on it, and i thought it was so sweet. I would sit by the tree for hours at night just looking at the lights, feeling so cozy and welcome in their home.
