The funny thing about this poll is that I believe that's pretty much the demographics of the site anyway, like 50% of posters on this site are 25 - 29, so I don't know if the results are actually showing what age most people buy or just that’s how old the people here are… am I making sense?? I feel like I am not wording this well

I am 24....DH is 27....we purchased our first home about 3 months ago...
I think we might have gotten something sooner if we weren't renting for the 5 years prior...but because we didn't live at home and we started paying rent at early ages it took us a little longer to save for the wedding and house downpayment - but I still think we got a good start on things

DH was ready to by 8 years before that.

I completely agree with you. I grew up in Virginia Beach and I would say only about 10% of my friends own a home down here right now. I am 27 and most of my friends are actually older. Two very different ways of life.
Im thankful for the years I lived in NY as it helped me adjust my priorities (which is why I think I do own a home now).
I don't think Im wording this well either. Either way I mean no offense to either way of life.

No I get what you are saying. And actually makes me feel much better about still renting. At 26 i hope to buy my first place by 30.

I bought my own condo when I was 34 and still single. I met my DH a year later and we bought a house together a year after that. That was 4.5 years ago, when I was 37 and DH was 39.

I bought my condo when I was 30. I've since sold it and moved into DH's house when we got engaged. He was 34 when he bought his 1st house.
