If you have Oxford Health Insurance
I was told that they only pay for 3 sonograms. After that I have to get an approval. Is that true?

Yes. Oxford is a pain in the Butt. The dr. office will get the approval though.

Re: If you have Oxford Health Insurance
it might depend on your plan
mine says this: Type of Service - General: BASIC SERVICES: ULTRASOUND Oxford covers this service when medically necessary and appropriate. This benefit has no maximum payment or visit limit.
as far as maternity stuff...mine just says covered at 100% after the first visit...so i just paid 1 co-pay.
that being said...i dont think my ultrascreen was covered at 100%...but im checking into it.

Re: If you have Oxford Health Insurance
I have the Freedom Plan. I was surprised my OB office told me I have no copays for all my visits. But when I called the hospital for my ultrasound she told me Oxford only covers only 3, I was shocked. Maybe she doesn't know which plan I have.

I just checked online, mine says the same thing. You're at 20 weeks. Did you have 3 ultrasounds already?

Re: If you have Oxford Health Insurance
Yes, but I don't think it's hard to get an approval since I've had about a dozen and I'm going for another one on Tuesday and one on Thursday. I am high risk, but I think as long as the doctor submitts a request for it, they grant it.

Oh good, thank you so much. So the doctor does all the paper work? Is there anything I have to do?

Re: If you have Oxford Health Insurance
I had Oxford with my last pregnancy. I had a TON of sonos due to a low lying placenta and I never paid a dime for any of them. I had the Freedom plan at the time (this was in 2007).

Re: If you have Oxford Health Insurance
i have the freedom plan too...and ive had more than 3 sonos already (at 20w).
when i called they didnt tell me anything...if u find out let me know!
i had the first one at the like 6w apt...then again when i switched drs (say 8w)...and again at 10/12...the ulttrascreen...and today's...the level II.
so far i only got part of a bill for the ultrascreen but the dr said that might happen because it was done by another lab and not "necessary". im calling to ask about it though.
