Painting stripes - oy vey!!!
Hope that someone can help...
We are painting the nursery for dd-to-be and decided that it would be a nice idea to paint a stripe (a' la faux chair rail in the room). We have a very odd height window in the room and chair rail would have just looked weird....
We spent HOURSSSS taping a 6'' stripe on Saturday during the day. Walls are light pink, stripe is 3 shades darker from the same paint chip. Rolled the stripe with a small foam roller, peeled the tape and we had MASSIVE bleeding issues. We determined that we did a poor job applying the tape and would try again and increase the width of the stripe by a 1/2'' to accomodate the bleed. This time we were ULTRA ULTRA careful with the tape application and made sure to rub the edges down well. Rolled lightly (gave it 2 coats) and viola' BLEED AGAIN!?!?!
We now have a 6 1/2'' stripe around the room that looks like it was painted by some drunk monkey's!!!
I know many people paint stripes and do not have this problem so please share your techniques, tricks, whatever may help... At this point we have created a ridge with the stripe and if we decided to just paint over it with wall color we would have a lot of sanding to make it even...
HELP PLEASE!!!

why not come back with the lighter pink and touch up. take a piece of cardboard and use that as your straightedge.

Re: Painting stripes - oy vey!!!
We just did stripes in DS big boy room and heres how to do it without bleeding:
- tape off stripes - paint over inside edges of the tape and stripe with base color to form a seal, this will bleed under but it matches the base color so its OK and then forms a seal so that the actual stripe color doesnt bleed under -when base color is dry enough to paint over paint the stripe color -wait for it to be dry enough to do a 2nd coat BUT NOT DRY, you want to pull the tape off when it is still wet -paint 2nd coat and pull tape off immediately

This sounds like a great idea. I know we've had bleeding issues before. What we (well actually DH) has tried that has helped - use the stronger tape (there are different levels,) don't use too much paint when you are painting. DH doesn't use the sponge so I don't know how that changes the quantitiy of paint. And like eddiesmommy said, don't wait too long to pull the tape off after the second coat. But I am def going to suggest to DH he try the base color seal first. GL!
