Looking Up

A dining room chandelier gets a holiday makeover with red berry candle rings and copper satin bows (pre-tied, then wired onto the fixture). On top, several sheer and satin ribbons curl into a froth of holiday cheer. Changing the lampshades to red silk is another quick way to update a light fixture for the season.

Bathing Beauty
Transform a concrete birdbath into a beautiful side table by lining the basin with moss, sprinkling in pearlized ornaments, and finishing with a glass tabletop.

How cute is this one.

Going with a Theme
The room's polka-dot window valance was the inspiration for this colorful holiday theme. Dots appear everywhere and are accented by real oranges on the table and the tree.

Gather the Light
Assemble any collection of candleholders and fit each with a candle in a single color. White, ivory, gold, red, or green may be traditional, but any color candle that works with your interior can look festive.

Doll Up the Stairs
Make a big decorating statement with greenery, ribbons, and decorations on a stair railing. Invest in a fabulous ribbon (like this wide red silk) -- and at the end of each season, iron and rewind onto the bolt for use again next year. This garland's snowflake, ice skate, and twig adornments also adhere to the room's existing red-and-white color scheme.

The Writing on the Wall
Relax the annual holiday card display. Tuck the cards you receive (or vintage ones you collect) into an iron garden trellis anchored in a window box. The box also holds an ample supply of good cheer to serve guests or give as parting gifts.
