Re: Verizon Fios Vs. Time Warner
I think that, overall, we like Time Warner better but here's my pros and cons for both.
Time Warner
Pros
---News 12 ---Metro Traffic and Weather ---Optimum WiFi on the LIRR ---No contract ---Triple Play Package = good deal ---Quick, responsive trouble-shooting
Cons
---TV channels lag sometimes
Fios
Pros
---More channels (including Lifetime Movie Network!!!) ---Better DVR service (cooler features) ---Super clear picture
Cons
---Contract ---They install this big ugly box on your house. ---If your cable box breaks, u have to MAIL it back---they don't have stores nearby. ---Good luck getting a live person when you call.

Re: Verizon Fios Vs. Time Warner
I prefer FIOS over TW.
Pros to FIOS The internet is faster It nearly never goes down - I was resetting TW daily at one point. Multi-room DVR: I can watch shows recorded in the LR in any other room. On demand - they have an extensive list of programs available on demand. The channel groupings make more sense They haven't moved stations since I switched over (9/2008) They have this widget thing where you can get some headline news, weather, traffic, etc on the top of your screen.
Cons to FIOS I miss NY1 The FF & Rewind do not work well on the multi-room DVR. I end up watching the show with commercials which is not idea but not the worst thing either. It takes a long time to install - HOURS.
Cost: My total FIOS bill was just a bit more then my old TW bill but I added an HD DVR box and my phone service. My monthly savings was my old phone bill which was in the $60-70 range - I dont remember exactly.
HTH!

Re: Verizon Fios Vs. Time Warner
Verizon Fios
Pros:
Stations not offered on TW anymore (FIT TV, etc..) No loss of signals like I used to get all the time No delays on retrieving the guide Fast internet Less down time on internet Much cheaper (we have internet, phone and TV) There is now the equivalent of News12 on Fios You can watch recorded programs from the box in one room and watch it in another room (assuming if you recorded in HD that the other box is also HD, otherwise make sure to record in none HD is you plan on watching in another room or get another HD box)
Cons: Takes all day to install

No more hidden fees than TW. It's a scare tactic from TW. We still pay a lot less with Verizon than we did with TW after all tax, fees included.
It also does not increase your electrical bill. Another TW scare tactic.
