For those with TV's in your "living room"
If you only have a living room and no Den. How big is your TV?
We bought a 40" and I think it looks way too big for that room, being that it is the first thing you see when you walk in the house. The wall space there is only about 44 inches wide (b/c there is a chimney that juts out next to it and a doorway on the other side) and the TV is 42 inches wide
We don't have a den, and DH wanted a big TV....but we are finishing our basement so we will eventually have a TV down there too. We are thinking of moving that one downstairs and getting a smaller TV for upstairs (maybe 32")
I still want our living room to look somewhat formal, even though there will be a TV in there.
What about you?

Re: For those with TV's in your "living room"
Right now we have a 40 in our tiny LR in our tiny apt... Its huge... DH is now thinking its not going to be big enough for our new LR in our new house and wants to buy a 50..... I dont want one that big.. Like you, I feel it is no longer a bachelor pad and no need for a gigantic tv...
Then we wants to put our 40 in our bedroom (once again, will be too bg and not needed) and move our 32 to the "gaming room" aka man's den...
I seriously think he is on crack.... Oh yes, and lets not forget about the tv he wants to add to the kitchen... I dont think we have a big enough insurance policy on the house

Re: For those with TV's in your "living room"
well we have a family room but we also put a TV on the main level in what i would consider our "more formal living room" - but it's really not that formal i tried to make it more cozy decor wise figuring DH and i will probably spend a lot of time in there and when we have guests over i think it's nice for them to have a TV (in our family there is always something someone wants to check whether its a game, a show, etc.) so for us, we opted to have two living areas with TV's...the tv in our main living room is 42 inches...
i think your best bet for making the room seem more formal is to put your television in an armoire....that is what i originally wanted to do in our living room but the armoires i liked were too expensive so instead we got a hutch style piece and our flat screen hangs on the back panel....i would have really love an armoire though - b/c at least that way you can hide your television when it's not in use....we are absolutely putting the TV in our bedroom in an armoire when we purchase our bedroom furniture...

Re: For those with TV's in your "living room"
We're getting a 46" for our living room which is not that big. We actually have a den which will also have a TV but it's going to be more of a playroom for DS so we wanted a TV in the LR too (plus the FP is there and we want to be able to enjoy both). I don't love the look of it but it's very cozy and we enjoy it so that's all that matters

52" - We had a 55" projection monster which was huge. We just got the 52" flat screen, which I thought was going to be big, but it's actually perfect. But we also have a gigantic sectional so everything in the room is big.

Re: For those with TV's in your "living room"
Our TV is a 50" and I think it's way too big for our living room. I wanted to get something smaller like 42", but DH insisted on the bigger one.

Re: For those with TV's in your "living room"
Ours is a 42” and it’s pretty huge… esp since we’re in an apartment and our LR isn’t that big!

Ours is only 32" but if we put one on the wall, we would go as much as 46".

Re: For those with TV's in your "living room"
Our family room is on the 2nd level of our house. It's more like a loft/bonus room. We only have a 32" up there. We rarely watch tv up there unless I want to sit at my desk and be on my laptop.
We have a great room downstairs which I consider our "living room" and that is where our 50" TV is. We mounted it on the wall and b/c of the open layout, it looks good.

Re: For those with TV's in your "living room"
Currently a 27" but our 46" is sitting in a box in our living room. We have a high ceiling in the room so I don't think it will look crazy.
Plus, it's my house, we like it, and don't care if no one else does. Do what you like and what looks good to you.

Re: For those with TV's in your "living room"
Our living room is tiny and we have a 40". I think its just right but any bigger would seem too big in this room.

Re: For those with TV's in your "living room"
We're in a coop so no den, just a living room.
We originally had a 32" flatscreen that DH had before we got married. But now we have a 50". We have an entertainment center so it's not up on a wall on it's own.
