Please tell me the secret...

...of the two hour nap???Chat Icon

DS is 3.5 months. Mostly he takes three or four 30-45 minute cat naps throughout the day. A few times he's slept for an hour and half to two hours and I can't for the life of me figure out what we did differently to make him sleep for longer. Chat Icon

I have no clue ... Ann either sleeps for 20 mins a clip at daycare or two hours! No rhyme or reason I can tell.

Re: Please tell me the secret...

L sleeps most calmly and soundly on his belly.

eta: he naps for 30 mins TOPS in his bouncy, but will nap for 3 hrs on his belly in a PnP/crib/on any flat surface.

Re: Please tell me the secret...

DS didn't start 2+ hour naps till 6mos. Once he was really really moving, he got more exhausted for sleep.

Where does your DS nap?

For DD, she would nap much longer in her crib. I also found the am nap would ususally be the longer nap when she was your DS's age. At that age, I would also consistently put her down for her nap about 1 1/2 hours after she woke up. I always found her nap would average 2 hours when I did this.

Most of his naps are in his crib, sometimes in his bouncy chair though. He also goes back to sleep 1 1/2 - 2 hours after waking up, but that's usually a shorter nap (although on Monday that one was nearly 2 hours!). I think he sleeps best if I'm on the move with him in the stroller. But it's crappy out today, so there's no way I'm going for a 2 hour walk!

But the long naps have happened in the stroller, in the crib - either on his tummy or on his back, and in the bouncy seat. There doesn't seem to be a reason..!

Re: Please tell me the secret...

Well, I haven't really started to put DS down for a nap as a routine, but I will try putting him in his swing and he'll fall asleep. We recently got from a friend Dozy Dolphin which is basically a stuffed dophin machine in it. I have been using the ocean wave sound and this seems to help him stay settled. It eventually turns off, but if I find he starts to fuss, I reset it and it'll usually keep him down a bit longer.

For me the secret was having him sleep on his belly but not everyone is comfortable with that

Re: Please tell me the secret...

I can't be much help really. DD was the queen of the two and a half hour nap for the first 3 months of her life (always napped in her swing though), she would usually take two 2 hour naps a day plus a 1 hour one in the evening. Once she hit 3 months she literally went on nap strike. Now she is consistently only taking 3 or 4 30-45min min naps a day. Its awful because she gets so cranky by evening when shes had such little sleep. Once and awhile she'll have a nice 2 hour one for old times sake and shes like a different baby. But its so random.

Re: Please tell me the secret...

mine napped 2 hours a day, twice a day from the start...as long as I was sitting in a chair holding him the entire nap. Once I put him down, naptime was over.

This went on for 8 months.Chat Icon
