more bedtime routine questions
How long does your bedtime routine take?
Did you decide what time your DC should go to bed or work backwards from there? Do you wait for DC to seem sleepy or give signs?

Mason goes to sleep around 7:30 every night. He made that bedtime. Just around 2 1/2 - 3 mons its when he'd start rubbing his eyes so I'd put him in the crib.
Now he's 5 1/2 months and still the same thing so we do the bedtime routine starting around 6:45 - 7ish. Bath, lotion, overnight diaper, PJ's, bottle around 7:15ish and if he's not yet sleepy I read a book and then lay him in the crib. When he's really tired he just turns halfway and goes to sleep and other nights I have to wind the mobile maybe 3 times b4 he goes to sleep. I'm usually taking his garbage out and setting his clothes for daycare for the next day when he's in his crib. He's good at falling asleep on his own

I play it by ear mostly, but she has fallen into a routine - she's usually ready for bed between 7-8pm.
Yael works in about 2 hour imcrements most of the day. She can't be up for more than 2 hours before she needs another nap. So later in the day, I just start coutning from her last nap.
She usually wakes up from her last nap between 5-5:30. So then I know that she'll be ready for bed around 7-7:30pm. Sometimes she's tired before then, and I start getting her ready, sometimes she's not tired by then and I stretch her a little.
She lets me know when she's ready - she starts yawning, rubbing her eyes, starts turning her head away from toys or from us because she's overstimulated and tired, etc.
At that point, if I see that she has some sleep cues, or if it's been 2 hours, I start to get her ready. If I give her a bath, the whole process takes about 40 minutes - bath, feed, burp, and then I put her down in her bed awake and she falls asleep within minutes these days. If no bath, about 20 minutes - I change her into her PJ's, feed her, burp her and then put her in her bed.

She does fall asleep easier on bath nights, but once 7:15-7:30 comes she is so ready to eat/sleep and once she's full she goes right to sleep. She's always asleep before 8 and sleeps 11-12 hours straight now. DD is 3 months.
ETA: DD made her own routine basically... she starts to whine a little, rub her face, etc and I know she's sleepy. I follow her cues but they are always around the same time at night.

That's our routine too (substitute bottles for nurse).
We start the process at 7:45 every night, and on non-bath nights he's in bed asleep by 8:05.
Before we had a routine, I would figure out the eating schedule starting every morning to end at 8 when we wanted him to go to sleep (so I would stretch 3 hours between feedings to 3.5 or whatever to end at the right time). Now he still eats every 3 hours and is 8AM, 11AM, 2PM, 5PM, 8PM (and unfortunately still a 2-3AM bottle).
He sleeps from 8PM-7AM with a bottle around 2-3AM (generally he wakes for it, then passes out while drinking).
We figured out the right bedtime from his sleepy signs, but it was important to me to have a routine, because he seems to thrive from knowing exactly what happens when.

DD is 8 weeks, when she starts rubbing her eyes and looks sleepy I start our routine and she sleeps great (usually 6 hours a bottle then 3 hours) if she falls asleep feeding. But the last 3 nights I have put her down without her falling asleep in my arms to get her use to it and the nights have been a mess!!

DS is almost 5 months and I still rock him to sleep. It only takes a few minutes when he is drowsy and sooo worth it.

i get home from work (with him) around 6:15. Once I get him in the house, he'll cuddle/play with DH for 45 minutes or so, then DH feeds him (In this time, I take out clean PJs, clothes for tomorrow, and make bottles for tomorrow.).
Around 7:15-7:30pm, I give him a bath (every other day- he has dry skin), dry him off, massage him, then one of us carries him to bed. He's usually fighting to stay awake at this point (around 8pm), so he doesn't even need rocking or music or anything.

Is she only 2 months old? DD is 3 months and I still rock her most nights. She usually falls asleep nursing, but if not i'll rock her in the dark then put her down.
The last few nights she hasn't been fully asleep when I put her down in her crib, but she finds her thumb and goes right to sleep within minutes.
