fireplace refinishing
Anyone know how much to refinish your fireplace? ours has bathroom tile on it, we would do the demo just need someone to put stacked stone or stone on it.

Re: fireplace refinishing
I'd say about $500 just for labor.
This is just for a standard size fireplace - not up the entire wall or anything...

Re: fireplace refinishing
we are planning to changing the face stone, building a hearth and new mantle and getting a new front frame with built in screen and glass doors......
and the 1st price we got so far without the stone is 3800, including all demo and labor, we just have to wait for them to give us the exact measurements for the stone and we have to then buy the stone elsewhere.....
we are going this weekend/next weekend to 2 other fireplace companies to get some more quotes.....

Re: fireplace refinishing
yea its a standard fireplace and in order to do the livingroom/dinning room we have to deal with the fireplace first so we can move on to the rest of the room.

Re: fireplace refinishing
We had a corner fireplace that was redbrick. We covered some with sheetrock and the rest with stone--there are pics in my album. The cost for labor and the materials was about $1500 but that doesn't include the materials and labor for the sheetrock.

Re: fireplace refinishing
wow - those are some really high quotes!!!!
Jenn - do the demo yourself - do the durock yourself and hire someone to come and do the tile/stone. We got tile that looked like stone from Procida - it came on a big mesh back. I bet if you rented a tile cutter you could do that yourself too....
Since ours came on the sheet and looks like cultured stone (minus the variation in color) - there was no mortar or anything. Just straight grout to adhere it to the durock.
Easy peasy.
We just had ours re-tiled (long story) and it cost us $200. It took him 3.5 hours - he did the demo, we supplied the material. The reason I said it would cost around $500 is because he's a friend of the family so I'm assuming he gave us a break.
