Checked the rooms to make sure everything was ok. Since we moved in a week after closing, the owner was still there, and she was still cleaning an already clean house.
We had our family with us, we all started unpacking the truck.
While this was going on, we cleaned existing toilet seats while things were being unloaded (hadn't gotten to store yet).

We were starving b/c we didn't eat before the walk thru or closing...so after closing we got Taco Bell at a drive thru - we got to the house, DH carried me over the threshold and then we ate Taco Bell in the middle of the living/dining room.....just sat on the floor looking around like "HOLY SH** this is ours!!!!"

We toasted with our toasting flutes from our wedding - then went to dinner at a local restaurant.

The first thing we did was turn down the heat. We weren't moving in until that next weekend...and the builders had the heat up high. We also made sure all the windows and doors were locked. We also changed the garage door code.

We changed the locks. The previous owner had 13 children, we had no idea how many sets of keys were floating around out there

lol...cried. haha. I bought my co-op by myself and walked in and realized I was now a big girl, with a mortgage!! I just sat on the floor and wept a bit. But then I had a little Burker King feast (on said floor) and my sisters and friends came over to help me start painting and all was wonderful!!
It was just overwhelming at first.

ripped down all the wallpaper and had the walls redone. then we had all the carpets pulled up and hardwood floors restained.

Searched for candles - we moved in the day of that massive multi-state blackout in Aug 2003. First construction type thing was installing attic stairs.
