another gas conversion ?
DH and I just closed on our house and are interested in *maybe* converting from oil to gas as our first big project.
We both have no idea how to go about it! Who do we contact? Does anyone have any good recommendations.
TIA

Re: another gas conversion ?
Where do you leave?
I would contact your township and gas company. Give your home address and see if gas is available to you.
We had to wait until this August to do it. Our township had a "no road to be opened up for 5 years". Luckily we decided to convert last Winter so we did not have to wait for too long. And we wanted to do it in the Summer too when we did not need heat.

Re: another gas conversion ?
We used A Montilli Plumbing in Oceanside- they took care of everything. We already had gas lines so we didn't have to worry about that part.

Re: another gas conversion ?
I converted over about a year ago...no regrets whatsoever. Anyway you need to first find out if there is gas on your street. If you are not sure you need to call National Grid. If it is not there yet, they can tell you if they plan on getting it there. From there either they can recommend a plumber or if you know a plumber, they are the ones to actually do the conversion. They take care of getting the permits and all. I used Fox's Plumbing and they were great. Good Luck

Re: another gas conversion ?
Just as an FYI- if there is no gas on your street yet, it will be VERY expensive. The gas line doesn't run down our block. We contacted National Grid. Our house is only 220 ft from the gas line on the corner. To bring the line 220 ft to our house would be $7995!!
Yeah I'm going to pay you 8 grand so I can buy your gas... I think not!
If you already have gas lines, it should be quick and easy though!

Wow!! I didn't know that it would be that expensive if there are no gas lines. I'm going to give National Grid a call and see if there are gas lines on the street yet - I have a feeling we don't have them in the area because every house we looked at was an electric stove/dryer and oil heat...

you also need approval from your township to dig the road.
I am in the township of Oyster Bay and we needed a permit.
But the company we hired for the job took care of it all.

that's because national grid doesn't have the lines in the ground by where we are buying.
