Oriental style rug with patterned chair?

I need some opinions.

Can I put patterned accent chairs (below) in a room with an oriental or patterned style area rug (with same color scheme)?

I think it would depend on the rug itself and then the room. It could work, it would just depend.

We have a striped accent chair on an oriental rug of the same color scheme and it looks great. But stripes are different from patterns.

Will the chair be on the rug? I would have to see the rug but Im thinking that pattern might be too close and it will be a bit busy if its placed on the rug.

I would say yes as long as the two don't compete with each other.

I have patterned chairs, ottoman and rug in my LR and I think it looks good.

I don't have a picture of the rug. I haven't picked one out yet. I want to buy 2 accent chairs and a brown leather coach. I guess I could also consider getting a solid color area rug or even a striped rug????? I'm planning on painting the walls in Yarmouth blue (BM), adding bamboo shades and dupioni silk drapes to a bay window, which the chairs will be in front of, with a pedestal accent table in between. I also want to eventually put raised boxed panel chair rail moulding.

I'm still in the beginning planning stages, so this is what I am envisioning, but I have to find all of the pieces to put together.

Unless you find a rug you LOVE first, I would get everything else first and look for the rug last. There are sooooooo many options out there you are bound to find something that works!

OK I found this rug from Pottery Barn. There is also a picture from Pottery Barn that has patterned chairs matched with the rug.


Also, the chairs will not be on the rug, but within a few feet.

Thanks for all the posts.

So I have to go to 2 separate Pier 1 stores to get the chairs because they are discontinued, but I have them on hold until tomorrow. The salesperson at Pier 1 was so nice and also said he would put this chair with an oriental type of rug.

I actually saw a very similar rug in Homegoods for $200 less than the PB one, so I am going to take another look at it and maybe get that one and save some money. I'll post pics once I can some of this together.
