train ride into penn is about 45 minutes (not sure how long on an express train)
glen cove is a VERY area... if you can afford it, id say go for it!
im not positive about the schools, but i would imagine they would be good since the area is VERY upscale and nice

I think you have to transfer at Jamaica (from checking the LIRR site) which is a pain in the butt...does anyone know if there is an exzpress option to NOT have to stop at Jamaica?

Re: Glen Cove??
I just looked at the LIRR site and I think for most trains you will have to transfer at Jamaica, its just the nature of the Oyster Bay line....however, there is a 616 train that runs express home and its 59 mins. But thats the only one i see...

Re: Glen Cove??
If you take the train on the Oyster Bay line you will have to switch in Jamaica. Many people park at Hicksville or Port Washington and take the direct train from there. There are good and bad parts of Glen Cove. IMO the schools are not the best Nassau county has to offer. I would look at the high school stats. Many people who live in GC send their children to private school (Friends, Portlege, Chamanade (sp?), etc.). There are some really lovely homes in GC but I would do my research....
ETA: I grew up in the next town over. While I have not lived in Locust Valley for 5 years, I am still extremely familiar with the area as my friends and family still live there.

DH has family in Glen Head and Seacliff, etc. Great areas just so out of the way IMO, especially if you need to commute.
