Q about Licenced and Insured????
If someone is Licenced and Insured in one County does that mean they are also allowed to work in another County? I did not think they were.
For example, one person we called to give us a quote on our bathroom remodel told us he was licenced and Insured in Suffolk. We are in Nassau. We asked him about coverage in Nassau. He sort of gave us the round around, that it carries over, etc.. We won't be calling him back anyway since that was the guy that wanted $8K for labor only for a 5x8 bathroom.
For those who delt with this before, what's the truth?
TIA

Re: Q about Licenced and Insured????
My FIL holds one of the oldest contractor's licenses still up to date in Suffolk... it's #341 or something like that and they are issuing numbers with 6 digits now For 20 or so years of his business he was also licensed in Nassau, he let it lapse.
Technically, you must be licensed in BOTH counties to do work in both counties.
However, what a fair amount of contractors do, is work "on" someone else's license. For example, a contracting firm might hold one license but each individual contractor is not licensed. He "might" be working on someone else's license when he takes a job in Nassau. They do this to save the $$$ fee. Most contractors whose businesses are on the border, Huntington, Melville, Massapequa, etc. are licensed in both.

Sophie they need to be licensed in the county they are performing the work. If you are in nassau- they need a nassau license number. if they dont they are doing the work unlicensed then even though they have one for suffolk.

True. You can also check with consumer affairs to see if they have had any prior issues.
