Has anyone used chalkboard paint?

We are finishing up DS room and there is one spot on the wall that is jut missing something, the corner of the room looks empty. I can really hang anything bc it would be too many pics on one wall . So since it is right by his table and chair set I was thinking of doing a section of chalkboard paint and then Id frame it out with some moulding. Maybe even magnetic chalkboard paint, so he can hang up his artwork. Hes only 2, so I wouldnt use magnets at this point but in the future it could work.

Has anyone used either chalkboard or chalkboard/magnetic paint? Can you recommend a brand? Any feedbacl, pros/cons on it?

Any pics?

Re: Has anyone used chalkboard paint?

FM Steph4777 about a month ago she posted pics of the magnetic chalkboards she did for her boys.

ETA: The only con for us would be that my ds already has a habit of coloring on the wall with rouge crayons he hides from us, so I'd worry that he'd keep that up if we said you can use chalk on this part of the wall.

We had done this in our old house with the chalkboard paint. And our son doesn't understand why he could color on that wall but no others. Good Luck hope it works out well for you

Does the "chalkboard" remain grayish, does it ever FULLY erase? Can you wash it like you can wipe down a regular chalk board?

Re: Has anyone used chalkboard paint?

I did a magnetic chalkboard area in the boys room a couple of months ago. My youngest is 2.5 and did use the chalk on the regular wall once but after I made him clean it up he's never done it again.

I used RustOleum brand for both the chalk and magnetic paint. I did it in phases over 2 weekends bc the kids were still sleeping in their room. The chaulk paint has to cure for a few days before you can use it.

If you just use an eraser, you will have a dusty grayish layer. You can wipe it down with a damp cloth and it will be completely clean.

Here are some pics, but FM me if you have any more questions.

thanks! so glad I can wipe it down and make it black again and not they greyish. Im insanely anal when it comes to things being clean, so it wouldve annoyed me, LOL.

Do you do a layer of magnetic first under it? Ds isnt in his "big boy" room yet, so we have time for it to cure.

Thanks!

Re: Has anyone used chalkboard paint?

i used the martha stewart recipe. it doesn't have to be black. look it up, it looked great b/c i had a color sample thing from Home depot where i painted the walls yellow, it suggested a cream color trim and this greenish colored accents.. we did the chalkboard the greenish color.

it was real good especially b/c it was in the kitchen and the dust was easy to clean up.

I did 2 coats of the magnetic paint and then 1 coat of the chalk.

I found that even with 2 coats the magnets from the Leap Frog Fridge toy are sometimes too heavy and slide down. I recently got foam magnets and they work so much better and stay in place.

RustOleum also had green chalk paint.
