Anyone ever paint over their bedroom furniture?

I have some old bedroom furniture I bought at Furnakit years ago. It's in really great condition, but I don't like the color of it anymore.

Here's a picture of a similar piece of furniture from Furnakit's website. Is it possible to paint over? Will it look nice? Any suggestions from anyone who has done this?

my only concern would be if it's not real wood, but a wood veneer,w ould the paint stick?

maybe ask at Home Depot or lowes.

That was my concern as well. The website says it's "composite wood" so it's not real wood.

I painted over my old dresser with white paint, and then used crackle paint over that so it has a very shabby chic look to it. It came out great!

This is what the technique looks like.

use a good primer and you should be fine. you can give it a quick sanding very lightly and as long as the surface is smooth with no defacts it will work great

I JUST did this. I also painted over formica, so yeah, you can pretty much paint anything. You just want to make sure you use a good primer so the paint sticks. I have personally done my kitchen cabinets and spare room furniture, and I just had 2 armoire's done professionally.

I didn't take pics of the armoires, before & after but you can see them in these pics. These are the 2 armoires (in the back) before... I was trying to take a pic of Mazi, he was ignoring me.

This is the after. I had it done by Spanos Custom Painting, he did an amazing job. He even fixed the top corner where one of the cats chewed... LOL

This is my post on how to do it from a long time ago if you wanted to do it yourself!

They came out great! My DH thinks it can't be done. I'm going to show him your post. Thanks!

Re: Anyone ever paint over their bedroom furniture?

I'm looking to re-do a piece of furniture (not for my bedroom though) that I have. I had posted in regards to this a few days ago as some of the ladies here had posted about blogs where information and pictures of revamped furniture can be seen. Here is one of the links that was posted and that I found very helpful.
Once your DH sees this, not only will he thinks is possible but also might get inspired. I now look at any piece of furniture in a different way. HGTV Designer Candice even did this for 1 piece of furniture (Entertainment center) for a design she was working on and it came out great. This episode was aired yesterday.
