Anyone that has had thier boiler replaced....
Did you find it better by going through your utility provider or to get a contractor in? Please share your thoughts. We are planning on replacing our 60 year old boiler and adding a second zone for second floor since it is sooo cold up stairs compared to downstairs. I had my boiler worked on yesterday and its running at 78% efficiency and the guy said I should consider changing it as I would probably save a tank of fuel a year

Re: Anyone that has had thier boiler replaced....
I would get quotes from both the utility provider and an outside source to compare. When we first moved in we asked the guy that cleaned the furnace about our heat set up. He said we should have two, not one, zone for the size of the house (the previous owners had turned the upstairs attic into living space) and he would have the oil company send out someone for a quote. I think they contract with outside providers for that sort of work. They came out, said they would send us an estimate and we never heard from them - something I've found to be pretty typical here on LI. When we did renovations recently we converted to two zone at that time. I can recommend our plumber if you want to talk to him about adding a zone and replacing the boiler. PM me if you want his name. He's in Suffolk but I know he does work in Nassau too.

My parents just did this. They used an outside contractor. Way cheaper and same warranty.
