My sister's first comment to me when I told her DD's name was "Oh, I know 3 dogs with that name." I could've killed her at the time, but I knew we loved the name and weren't changing it. And her comment is also the reason we decided to stop telling people our baby names!
A friend of mine just named her DS Spencer b/c she loved our dog's name so much! I definitely wouldn't confuse the two! I say name him Joseph if you love it!

Devon, sorry, i have to agree with you - as stupid as it sounds, BOTH DH and i feel that once we have a weird or negative association with a name, no matter how small, we can't use it.
and what's funny is that my dog's name is Joey and we call him Joseph

My mom adopted a dog named Walter, the same name as our neighbor! I always felt guilty going outside and calling for him, hoping the neighbor did not hear me!
But that story aside-you should totally name your son Joseph!

We're naming our son after our very own cat. haha!!! my cat's name is Xander (from buffy the vampire slayer) and when thinking of boy names DH and I fell in love with Alexander. I see the baby as Alex now and can't get it out of my head. I'm over the similarity already.

IMO I wouldn't name my dog Joseph b/c to me it is a person name. Dogs get named like Sparky or Puggy. You shouldn't even think about it bc people probably think SHE is the weird one, haha. Name that baby Joseph!!
