Winterizing your House
So, this is going to be our first winter in our new home and I am wondering what people do to get ready for the cold weather. I know we have to have someone come and blow out the IGS system but is there anything else I am missing? What do you do this time of year to prepare for the change of season?
Also, if you have central air, are you supposed to cover the unit and do you have to have that winterized as well??
TIA

Re: Winterizing your House
Make sure your outside water spouts are shut off. Disconnect the hose and store in a garage/tool shed. Get the shovels ready in an area where they can be reached easily.
Clean out the gutters - remove any debris/leaves..

Also make sure your boiler is cleaned by your oil company. I do this once a year.

Re: Winterizing your House
Make sure the heat in your house works BEFORE it gets too cold! It's much easier to get someone to fix something before it's really cold and everyone else needs their furnace fixed as well!
