A poop question... (maybe TMI...)
I have a call into my pediatrician, but while I'm waiting to hear back from him, I figured I'd ask you guys...
Both yesterday morning and this morning when I changed James when he woke up, some of the poop in his diaper was greenish-black mixed in with the regular color. It didn't happen at any other time aside from the first poop of the day yesterday.
He's not sick or anything - any thoughts on what could cause this? (he's formula-fed)

My doctor always said as long as it wasn't entirely black, white or looked like grape jelly - anything else was fair game.
How black was it?

Did he eat anything different?> How old is he? Did he eat a lot of something green?
I've never gotten worried about different colors. I think of it as a nice surprise.
BTW - we call them "Code Brown" in our house. Most of the time the name fits!!!

Re: A poop question... (maybe TMI...)
I think that's normal. Once they get to a month or so it's less (barf) seedy yellowy looking - well maybe 6 or 7 weeks. Tommy is 10 weeks and his is greenish brownish and dark.

My DD is 8 weeks and has been having the greenish, dark poop for a couple weeks now. (Formula fed)

Re: A poop question... (maybe TMI...)
Thanks guys - he's 5 weeks tomorrow.
I've noticed lately that his poop is moving from the mustard seed phase to the mushy hummus-like texture.
Good to know that it's normal! I was NOT expecting to see dark colors when I opened that diaper both mornings!

Re: A poop question... (maybe TMI...)
i was going to post the same exact thing! DD is 4 weeks old since we put DD on formula she has 2 types of poops (which I dont understand if shes ALWAYS eating the same thing)
either the yellow seedy mustard poop (a little thicker than it was with BM tho) OORR the greenish/black cake frosting poop
scared the crap out of me the first time she had it. DH said it was probably the iron in the formula and that worked for me. I figured as long as she was pooping and no fever or anything than it was normal?

With Sasha, sometimes the poop was just slightly different color. If it persists, definitely call your Ped to ease your mind.
