Think Im getting scammed on craigslist... anyone ever deal with that?
Well I listed a few things on craigslist... and I got a few quick responses and they said they were away, they would send a check with more money to remove the ad and hold till they arranged pick up. Well dummy me was like cool yeah... So I gave them my address to send the check and then later on after I got the same exact email about another item ... I realized it was a scam!
Has this ever happened to anyone?? Im so mad at myself for so quickly giving out my personal information...(which I never normally do) And Im nervous. I contacted craisglist... but still im nervous!!

I went through something similiar. I was trying to get rid of 2 air conditioners a few months ago and I had 1 reply. They guy claimed he can only pay by money order and that his assistant was going to handle it because he was on a business trip. He even offered an extra $50- to hold it for him. Then he e-mailed me to tell me that his assistant sent me the wrong payment and that I should cash it, take out my payment then western union the rest of the money back to him.
Like you, I was nervous too because I gave out my address. I let my husband handle it and nothing happened. This was definately a scam, I even checked it on Craigslist.

Same...it was my wedding dress. Said he was would send me the $$ + $50 to take it down early. Said he would send a mover but I would have to pay the mover with his $$. Realized it was a scam and told him to shove it. Only after giving him my info. Nothing happend though...

People are creepy. I would never sell anything on Craigslist because of that.

I sell things successfully on Craigslist all the time. I never respond to anyone asking to send me money, give them any information or anything. I dont even give my name until I know the buyer is legit. I pick and choose who I sell to, if that makes sense. Someone with a cryptic email address automatically gets deleted. I usually only respond to email address that are work email addresses or have the persons name as part of the email address. So far, my approach has avoided dealing with any shady buyers.

Thats exactly what happened.. business man offerinmg more money and that his secretary would send check! UGH!!! How did you end the emails with this "person"? I emailed him back saying in person cash transaction only.--- expecting to hopefully not hear a response.

Only except cash.....Meet at a well populated area. Not at your home. On the top of every post on Craigslist, it says never except, money orders, wire transfers, checks, etc. I have sold quite a few things this way and so far I haven't had any problems. Good luck..

If possible...I wouldnt even have people come to your home. I would meet at a public place nearby your house.

anytime I am selling something and get one of those email I respond with
cash only- local pick up
I never get a response to that- they know to move on

next time you get a response like that (and know it is a scam) give them the address of your local police station. See if they send a check

that's what I do.
I've had success on craig's list..people came to my house and the transaction was fine.
I worried at first, but after a few conversations with people back and forth I felt comfortable.
those emails are always scams.
