Work in house
Those of you who have used contractors, were they there all day, or did they show up for a couple hours each day? If they did only show up a couple hours did they make a schedule before or call you 1/2 hour before they wanted to come in?

Re: Work in house
Our contractor would come around 8:00 each morning, especially if he had a small crew with him. If he was just on his own that day he might come at 9:00 or 9:30 if he was picking stuff up first. They were usually here until 2:30 - 3:00 or so. This was the team doing the construction. The plumbing contractor was generally there early, but often stayed for a shorter time - he'd need a few hours to get stuff in place, then the construction crew would do there part. We generally knew on Friday (or got a call over the weekend) outlining the schedule for the following week, though that sometimes changed due to weather - can't set up the tools outside if it's pouring so that would change who was coming or what they were working on. There were a few times when we'd get a call the day before, asking if they could come by the next day, but that was not the norm, and they had a key so it didn't require any change in plans for us, just letting us know they wanted to have access and clearing it with us first.
