Making your own baby food and working? Is it possible??

As it is I'm having a difficult time w/ bf'ing and working, it is starting to stress me out so I am slowly introducing formula. I thought about making my own baby food when the time comes but I'm wondering how much of a pain it really is... Is it a lot of work?

It's really not that much work. You can bake or steam veggies and fruits while you are home (weekends, during naps, after DC bedtime, etc). A few veggies or fruits goes a long way serving-wise. Once you do it a few times and get a good stash in the freezer you will find you have a lot of food. The cubes are easy to defrost in the microwave. If your DC will go to daycare you can keep the cubes frozen and they will help keep the formula cold on the way in in the morning. Wholesomebabyfood.com has some good tips and ideas.

It really isn't bad. Once a week, I would have a "cooking night" and make up a couple of veggies or fruits in large batches & then freeze them in babycubes.

The following week, I'd make up a couple of different veggies/fruits.

They last in the freezer for quite a while.

Thank goodness for our stand-alone freezer, though.

Preparing in the morning is a breeze - a cube from this bag, a cube from another, and voila!

ok probably a stupid question but what do you do when you go out with dc and you need to feed them food, do you defrost it beforehand? Also just curious but do you do this to save money or b/c its better for dc? thanks!

It all depends on the child, honestly.
Making the food was never a bother for me....but having a picky eater was. She would eat something one day, so I would make a batch of it and freeze it, and then the next day she wanted nothing to do with it.
I got completely overwhelmed....which doesn't happen easily.
Jars were just easier.

I tried, it didn't work for me. i only had 1.5 hours / night with DS , I wasn't going to spend it in the kitchen!

It's not that time consuming because you can make huge batches at once. These are very convenient for feedings away from home, but I also bought baby feeding bowls with snap on lids that I can throw a few cubes in.

Absolutely...I did it on the weekends or when I was cooking dinner. Really not much work at all

I work full-time in Manhattan and made my son's food. Absolutely can be done. I would make large batches of a variety of fruits and vegetables on the weekends and freeze. I loved doing it and would pick up a lot of items in the farmer's market in Union Square on Friday.
