does all of your wood furniture...
match? like in your den or LR, if you have an entertainment center, coffee table etc - does all the wood match perfectly?
there's an entertainment center and coffee table i love, but their shades of brown are one or two off from one another. will that look weird?

Ours don't match. In rooms that flow together I like things that look like they have been collected over time. I don't like things super matchy matchy except in the bedroom where it is a defined space.

Ours match in some rooms but not others.
Our living room, office & master bedroom are a mix of a bunch of different pieces we've collected or inherited.
Our TV room & dining room furniture match.

I would not match everything. Real wood always is going to look different (different tree could take stain differently than another of the same family) so i think having different kinds of wood color is fine.

ditto. i have no problem mixing painted pieces with stained pieces, but i do not like the look of different colors of wood in the same room. however, i don't mind if it changes room-to-room.

I mix woods. I've got some pieces that are black, some with light tops and black legs, and sea grass pieces. It works.

I def agree with mixing and matching. I have 2 different wood tones and black in my living room/dining area.
That being said, keep a few things in mind - woods look different depending on how much lighting the area gets. I guess this is more of an issue for me in an apt since I only have widows on one wall so it is darker in the living room area.
Also, I think if you are going to mix, then pick colors that are in the same family, maybe with a different tone. This is almost like having highlights in your hair, one or two shades different looks nice. Or, do something totally contrasting, i.e. black. This way it doesn't look like you are trying to match but just got it a shade or too off. KWIM?
