Need hair help.

I want wash and go hair.

It currently takes me 45 minutes to dry and straighten, and even after that it's not really straight.

I have a newborn and will be headed back to work in the next few weeks. I need hair that's not time consuming so I can get him and me ready and get to work on time.

I'm very tempted to do JHS or keratin or whatever else is out there, but I need to verify a few things first:
- My sis is getting married next July. I assume I'm going to need curls for my updo. Is that still a possibility?

-I have a chub face. My hair is thick and makes its own rules. I do NOT look good with flat limp hair hanging on my face at all. I'm going to need a new hairstyle to balance out my chipmunk cheeks.

-I'm baptizing my son 9/27. Should I do this before or after the baptism?

-I'm going to have that post-partum hair shed soon (i assume). I don't want to look bald!!!

So now that you know my situation, what process do you think will work best for me? Where is the best (cheapest) place for me to get it? Stylist rec?

And here's the most recent pic I have...my hair is currently layered and angled in the front:

Nicole,

Are you nursing? I know you can't have the BKT done if you are nursing.

You can still have curls with the JHS(curling iron) for your updo.

-I have a chub face. My hair is thick and makes its own rules. I do NOT look good with flat limp hair hanging on my face at all. I'm going to need a new hairstyle to balance out my chipmunk cheeks.

See, JHS makes your hair pin straight. But it makes a mom's life so much easier(wash and go- I love it) Not sure if you would. Maybe if you went with a shorter do and the JHS. You would be better off with the BKT. Still some waves, but much easier to manage. But if you are nursing, you can't get it done.

-I'm baptizing my son 9/27. Should I do this before or after the baptism?
I would wait until afterwards. If you don't like it.. taking pics.
-I'm going to have that post-partum hair shed soon (i assume). I don't want to look bald!!!
I did the JHS one month after having my son- did not look bald.

So now that you know my situation, what process do you think will work best for me? Where is the best (cheapest) place for me to get it? Stylist rec? I would go with the Keratin treatment, But only if you are not nursing. In LI, the best place to go to is New Mode in Planview. I go to a place in Queens.- J J's Hair Salon in Flushing. I think both cost about 150.00 each.

Good luck.

Re: Need hair help.

Your hair always looks nice in every picture I have seen.

I don't think you should do JHS, but maybe try the Brazilian version whatever it's called and maybe cut a few inches off - it may save some time. I recently cut around 7 inches off (but same style) and it's been saving me about 10 minutes.

I wouldn't worry about the updo - hair people can work wonders and that's what curling irons and hot rollers are for Chat Icon

As far as the PP hair loss goes - I definitely shed A LOT, but had nothing close to bald spots, but it's different for everyone.

Re: Need hair help.

As you know I get JHS.
I did not lose a significant amount of hair post partum.
Your hair is very nice and I think similar to the way mine used to be.
My hair now is very straight. Its not flat, but the tips are very straight. Plus is can be boring to have my hair look the same exact way all the time. Another negative is it a PITA to grow out.
BUT... JHS makes my life sooooo easy! Its wash and go, I never ever blow dry my hair (except sometimes the roots when its grown out) and sometimes I don't even brush it. It dries perfectly straight with no frizz, and its very shiny! Its definitely the best way to go with a baby IMO. Even when I'm bored or doubting JHS, I think about how long it used to take me to do my hair and how that will never happen now with a baby... I will be continuing with JHS until my kids are in school at least.
My hair does hold a curl with a curling iron. Sometimes I'll shower at night, so in the morning my hair is dry and I can curl the ends under with a big barrel curling iron. Takes less that 5 minutes and takes away the pin straigh JHS ends.

ETA: The last 2 times I went to hair club IB , it was $150 plus $20 for hair cut. www.hairclubib.com

Thanks :)

Would my hair still have to be blown out if I go with the keratin treatment?

someone I work with just had this done and her hair looks great not limp or pin straight at all. The girl who cuts my hair does the treatment and I'm really considering doing it, but its just so much moneyChat Icon
However she swears it lasts about 4 months and each time you do it, your hair is already stronger from the time before so it will last longer.

and yes you would have to blow it out, but my coworker says it takes her 15minutes to do her hair now as opposed to over an hour.

Re: Need hair help.

Nic, I did JHS

My hair is naturally curly and JHS wouldnt let my hair take a curl.
I used a curling iron for an affair, my hair was limp and flat by mid party.

Def is easier with being a mom and cuts your time so much more.

ahhh thanks. That's my deal breaker. So I guess my best option would be the brazilian/keratin?

Yes- I think it can be a good start.

For me, it helps a lot.
My hair is easier to maintain. Cuts blowdrying.
I use a paddle brush and sometimes dont even section it and I still have straight non frizzy hair.
Its not PIN straight.

If I want to do flippy hair, I can. I can use a curling iron, like I did for a recent wedding and it curled.

I likey alot.

GL!

ETA: BTW, with Brazilian, your hair will look like the pics without using a hot iron and just blowdrying and a brush, in less time.

Re: Need hair help.

I can go to massapequa for that price - that's fine! I'll need a cut too.

I called new mode and they wanted $250-270 depending on length.

Nicole - I was cursing you the other night staring at the back of your head because you have such GREAT hair (but it now comforts me to know what you have to go thru to get it!! LOL!).

Personally, I had not a great experience with JHS and I don't know if I would recommend but I hear ya on the wanting wash & go - that's why I did it. And it did help me get out the house quickly but I always thought it was a bit flat/fried and now that it's half grown out, I definitely feel like it damaged my hair (more than 30 years of coloring has!).

I would get the Keratin. It's a conditioning treatment. My hair needs very little care now that I've gotten it. It's pretty much comb & walk out. A little blowdrying if I really want the front better.

The JHS will make your hair very straight. Because I color my hair so often, JHS is no longer an option. I loved it the first time. The 2nd time it didn't come out so good & the 3rd it was frizzed & horrible. It's been 2 years since I had it & finally cut it out.
