WWYD- Homeowners Insurance

I've gotten several quotes.

I'm trying to decide b/t:

(A)- $880 premium BUT need to install railings on front and back porch before I can buy the policy (homeowner will not do it- so I suppose I'd have to hire someone to go over there within the next week to throw up a few railings)

(B)- $1000 premium- same coverage, they don't care about the railings.

We want to replace the back porch ASAP anyhow- so that's not a big deal, but I wouldn't even think about putting railings up in front...Chat Icon

The cheaper one is with state farm- and they are no longer writing new-but they have mine on file still, so I could still get it at this point...

WWYD?

I'd go with the higher quote-it is less hassle and you said you don't want railings in the front anyway. (unless you are getting a good break from State farm b/c you have other policies with them)

Re: WWYD- Homeowners Insurance

I would put the railings up and go with the lower quote- next year the more expensive one may go up again- plus the railings are a good safety measure

ITA.

How many steps are there in the front? Any more than 2, and in the winter, with the snow and ice, you really want some sort of rail to hold onto.

I would also go with the lower quote.

When we purchased our home 2 years ago our rate was $800 for the year. Now I pay $1200 for the same company because the rates went up due to being in a hurricane area.

Re: WWYD- Homeowners Insurance

We just had to put railing up on our house as well! We did not want to do it, but after a while we realized when it snows we will love the fact that we put railings. Plus we have grandparents that found it really hard to get up the steps w/o the railings.

Not to mention i am an insurance agent, and even if the higher quote does not mind that you do not have railing now, they may ask you in the future to put them up, and then you will be paying an even higher premium (in the future) w/ the railings!

Re: WWYD- Homeowners Insurance

Since you are going to redo the back porch eventually I would go with the higher quote then when you redo the back put the railing on front & back and get another quote somewhere else
