Levittown and the LIRR

Looked at a house this weekend that I loved and I have a question for those that travel(ed) from Levittown to Penn.

I know the nearest stations are Hicksville and Bethpage. Don't you NEED a Town of Oyster Bay parking sticker to park in both those stations? I'm pretty sure Levittown is Town of Hempstead so there is no way to get the TOB sticker. What do you do?

(I'm talking about a 7am-5pm and 5am-2pm commuter every day, not just a quick visit to the city)

yes, you're right. you can't park in the main lot without a TOB sticker, and if you live in Levittown, you can't get one.

but depending on where in Levittown you are, it could be worth it for you to take the train from Seaford or Wantagh, those are both TOH. plus the parking there is WAY better. Hicksville stinks!!

I am in Hicksville. Unless you catch a train before 7am, there is no PARKING, permit or otherwise.Chat Icon Chat Icon It's a horrible situation because the main garage for the train has been closed down and is STILL under repair. Try to avoid hicksville train station, save yourself Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Levittown and the LIRR

I agree about Wantagh or even Bellmore.

It's worth the extra 7 minutes to get to those train stations.

It's not that big of a deal to go there.

Re: Levittown and the LIRR

Trust me when I say just commute from Wantagh or Seaford. Living in Town Of Hempstead, you get the almost free yearly parking pass for those two stations (its like a crazy cheap fee for the year).

There is ample parking at both of those stations. I parked today at Seaford at 9:15am and there were still plenty of spots available.

ETA: I also think the Babylon line is way more reliable than Ronkonkoma/Hicksville. Yes there are plenty of trains that leave from Hicksville, but the parking there is horrible.

The Babylon line is usually pretty on-time. The only issue I find with the Babylon line is if there is ever a problem in one of the east river tunnels (like a stalled train), the LIRR tends to cancel/combine trains and they usually do this first on the Babylon line (since this line has frequent enough service).

Thanks everyone for the responses.

I was pretty sure that was the deal with the TOB stickers but wasn't sure if they had a 'deal' or something. I would have no problem since I get there crazy early, but dh would.

I agree on all points. I do miss the south shore for that reason.

That's only true if you want to park in the VERY overcrowded parking lot right by the train station. There are a lot of parking spots but you might have to walk 5 minutes. Lots of people from Levittown who take the LIRR at Hicksville do off street parking since a permit is requited for Hicksville in all the LIRR parking lots (there are quite a few actually!).

DH takes a train around 7:30am and he find a parking spot everyday. Not by the ticket booth but he gets a parking spot.

When I go to Penn from Levittown, I almost always take the Wantagh line. I think it is more convenient than Hicksville and runs more frequently than Bethpage.

You need a parking permit for Bellmore. Chat Icon

I usually go out of Merrick or Wantagh (I'm from EM, right on the Levittown border).

Re: Levittown and the LIRR

You don't need a parking permit for Bellmore. I have parked in the lot many times and have needed one.

bellmore does not require a permit but wantagh does. the permit is only a few dollars a year but you must be a wantagh resident in order to get it. when i lived in wantagh i always took the train from bellmore, the lots in wantagh always seemed to be filled by 7:30am.

Re: Levittown and the LIRR

Bellmore does not require a permit. Seaford has an entire area further down that doesn't require a permit, that's where I usually park, because I don't go in enough to make sense to get a permit. If you commute regularly, just buy a permit. Seaford always has more parking then Wantagh, I think.
