Amount of Milk for Children Close to 2?

I am curious, how much milk should a child approaching 2 be drinking?

This came up in another post today, and I have been meaning to ask about this for awhile now. DS has started to taper how much milk he drinks, but he was getting around 16-18 ounces, so I'm thinking maybe that's too much for him now that he is 21 months?

Thanks! He also gets some water flavored with a very small amount of juice once a day--I'm wondering if I should switch a cup of milk for this.

DD is 26 months and has been drinking 2 cups of whole milk each day for a while now. Each of the cups has about 8-9 ounces in it.

truthfully, i am the worst at that stuff. i was happy if my DD drank a cup in the AM and then ate yogurt/cheese for the rest of the day or week. i think it sounds like your DS is getting plenty. does he also eat dairy foods? if so, i don't think you have to add any more milk.

He does eat other dairy, in truth that is almost all he eats! He rarely eats meat and seems to be off beans and eggs as well, so I was giving him extra thinking he needs the protein.

But I'm not so sure he really needs so much anymore.

my ped recommends 16-18oz. With my 2 (1yr and 3yrs), I have to try to LIMIT it to that.

At 2+ yo, I cut DS from 3 cups of 7 oz to 2 cups per day of 8 oz.

At two years old my son drinks no more than 16 oz. of 2% milk per day. We do a cup in the morning and a cup in the evening.

My ped said between 16-24 oz for DD who is 21 months.

DD drinks too much milk..so we have to start tapering her off.

DD is going to be 3 this October and she drinks about 15-20 ounces of *gasp* whole milk a day (she's skinny so ped said she can stay on whole milk)
