Opinions on at home dopplers?

I am thinking of buying one or maybe renting a "better" one.

Angelsounds has good reviews on Amazon.

I am KINDA afraid I won't always hear it and it will make me paranoid.

I am also thinking b/c I am overweight that I might have a harder time hearing it? I read a review like that...

Any info/review of your own would be appreciated! TIA

I never gone one... I honestly didn't think it was necessary.

How many weeks are you? I have heard that they aren't that accurate until you're 12+ weeks I think.

You will get a sono at 12 weeks so that should ease your mind for a while... at 19 weeks I started feeling flutters and at 20 weeks started feeling thumps. Now at 22+ weeks, I feel the baby kicking all of the time, so that's enough reassurance for me!

I got one with my 1st pg. It was an inexpensive one and it never worked right. So this time around I'm not going to even bother.

Re: Opinions on at home dopplers?

DH's cousin lent me hers. I googled it and saw it was like $400! I wouldn't have purchased that because it was so much money.

I basically used it 2 or 3 times total. The main time I used it was between my 16 week and 20 week appt while waiting to feel kicks. I used it again with my friend who was having a complicated pregnancy. I brought it over and let her step daughter who is 3 hear the heart beat. As Ive gotten bigger it is much easier to find the heartbeat, but at first it took a little while.

I bought one from baby beat when I was pregnant with my daughter ( I actuually rented it and then payed the balance because I realized I would be paying more than the full price if I rented it again)

I am using it now in my third pregnancy! I found this baby's heart beat very early (around 8 1/2 weeks) and have NEVER had a problem finding any of my kids HB's once I found it initially.

I like using it before I can feel the baby move. Once that starts to happen regularly, then I dont need it.

But I love it before that! BEst investment I ever made (well best preggo investment Chat Icon )

i agree with this. i had a sono at 12 weeks with DS, and by 16 weeks i was feeling him on a fairly regular basis. that was enough reassurance for me. i never really thought about getting one - it's a nice idea but they are so expensive and i know i'd get freaked out if i couldn't find the HB.

I rented mine from Babybeat.com too. We rented it during our first pregnancy, at 15 weeks I couldnt find a heartbeat. Chat Icon We had lost our lil one, I was grateful that I had a heads up rather than going into the Drs office by myself, thinking everything was fine, only to be told that I had lost our little one. My husband was able to be there with me.

Afterwards anything baby related just got thrown into the drawer and forgotten about for a while. By the time we found it again we had almost paid for the thing so we kept it. A month later we found out we were pregnant again Chat Icon. I started using it at 8 weeks and I still use it now @ 35 when she is not all too active. (Usually I get worried and get it, when I put it on she kicks it off)

FYI you dont need the Gel they sell with the dopplers you can use any jelly Lubricant, ie store brand KY.

Re: Opinions on at home dopplers?

i bought one for $100 and used it all the time. I didn't start using it until after my first trimester but I loved hearing the baby's heartbeat.

Re: Opinions on at home dopplers?

I personally would not get one, but that is me. They are really meant for fun and some even say that they might not pick up the heartbeat until the third tri! I do think they are supposed to start at 12+weeks I wouldn't get one personally because I think I would freak out if I used it and didn't get the heartbeat.

If you are bound to freak out, I say don't do it.
