2010-2011 tax assessment
so, if your house is assessed at a much lower value (which i assume everyone's is now), what happens to taxes and grieving the taxes? are you more likely to "win" the grievance, or not?
i am looking at houses, browsing really, and am looking at homes on the lower scale, hoping for a bargain. but even these homes that are quite affordable have inflated taxes (at least i consider them inflated). if purchased, can the taxes be grieved successfully especially if the purchase price is so much lower than the 2010-11 assessment on mynassauproperty.com ??
any insight?

Re: 2010-2011 tax assessment
Taxes in Nassau $uck to put it bluntly. Everyone has gotten reassessed and they dropped the value of homes by 17% BUT it does not mean that our taxes are going to go down b/c they can raise the tax rate.
I grieved my taxes this past year and was denied and than got a letter in the mail from the Town a few weeks later saying my house has dropped in value over $100k
ETA: here is the post discussing the 2010-2011 tax asseessment a few months ago. It may be helpful.
