I need decorating help for my basement (with pics)
We put in a new drop ceiling, painted the walls and replaced the ancient lighted sconces with updated ones. Now I'd like to put up some artwork but as you can see in the photos, the ceiling drops down low for the heating vents in certain areas. I just would love your ideas as to what I could do.
Here are some pics...
This is the opposite wall. There is a light on the top. There used to be a big picture of a mountain scene. What can I do in this space?
Thanks so much for all your input!!!!

Re: I need decorating help for my basement (with pics)
it looks great!!
I think you still have a nice space above the paneling to put some nice size framed pictures (try kohls of home goods) or i would put some black and white photos of kids (if you have) or family /wedding shots.
If you are going to put art, i think maybe something with Reds
you could also make or purchase one of those sprays (not sure if that is the right word) of flowers / euchalptus maybe over that door by your stairs?

Could you paint the inside of the wall niche a complimenting color to the room & than do something like this
I have seen some beautiful pictures that you have posted in the past of your children.
I would blow those up to 8x10 b&w & frame them in matching black frames with white matting & hang them around the room, all at the same level. Not too much space between them.
Does that make sense?

Complete sense. I like the idea of painting that space a complimenting color. I also like the 2 frames side by side in that 2nd pic.

i love the idea of painting inside that space a complimentary color and i also love the second picture just posted with the 2 large pictures in a recess like that
i do have to say the room seems a little dark so maybe add some more lighting also, or maybe its just the way the pictures came out....
definitely add some family and or wedding photos, in nice black frames to compliment the entertainment area

Those are just pics with the sconces lit. I have lighting overhead as well and a lamp next to the couches.
Here's a pic...it's really bright.

In this area you could also buy nice fabric and make it look like a piece of art. You would probably have to put some flat trim piece on the inside to make it look finished, like a matte on a frame. HTH!

Re: I need decorating help for my basement (with pics)
if it were me.. you need a POP of color on the top part of the walls. it's too bland right now... i have no suggestions of color, but that's what i would do...
someone on this board has the coolest basement with primary colors and bright accessories...
i think basements should be the room in your house that you kind of experiment with, or get bold with. KWIM?
It really looks comfy and cozy!! It's a nice size and great furniture in there! you have a great room there.
ETA: Now that i look at it.. i would pull out a orangey tone from the rug!! that would look amazing! with greeny accents on the wall.
that really is a great room!! i am jealous!
