Question for gas stove users

So we just bought a new house and it has a gas stove. I have never used one before and I am a lil nervous.

I am baking something in the oven right now and I keep hearing the sound of what I think is gas coming through every few minutes, it actually sounds like something is igniting, like when the burner first comes on.

Is this normal? Am I jjust being an idiot b/c I have never used one and I am not sure what noises it is supposed to make? I don't want my new house to blow up over sausage and peppers lol

TIA

Is it clicking? You will hear the oven cycle on and cycle off - almost how a fridge is not constantly running. But it should be very quiet, not loud like a fridge.

The clicking is the thing that lights it. It should not be clicking.

Is the oven hot? If it is heating up, then it is probably ok. When you have a gas leak, the gas leaks but nothing ignites, and the oven wouldn't be hot if this were happening.

Re: Question for gas stove users

mine would always go "WHOOSH" when the igniter lit the glame and gas came out... then it would click off.

it has to keep the temperature that you set it to. if there is no constant flame (like in pre-heating) then it will need to turn on to keep it at the temp you desire...

it's normal. but, i do understand your fear. i am ascared of gas...

Re: Question for gas stove users

You'll hear the gas come on when the stove needs to bring up the temperature again. In general, as long as you don't hear a clicking sound, from either the burners or the oven, you should be ok. If you do hear the clicking, it's that the pilot light went off so gas is coming through but there is nothing to ignite it. If so, you just need to relight the pilot.

IMO, you'll soon see that gas is wayyyy better than electric. I had gas growing up, and electric when we lived in Manhattan. I hated the electric, harder to control temps and get even heating and when we were househunting, a gas stove was one of my requirements (or at least the ability to convert to gas).

Re: Question for gas stove users

that's normal. it's just trying to regulate the temperature. my advice though is to get a little hanging oven thermometer that you can hang from one of the racks. In my experience, every gas oven I've ever had has not been acurate and either runs 25 degrees hot or 25 degrees cold.
