I delivered both of my DC at Good Sam and have no compliants. The staff was fantastic. Yeah the rooms are small but for the short stay it is doable. I had a private room both times but either way, having good nurses is more important to me than the size of a room.

Re: Good Sam- for those that will deliever and have delivered there
I'll be delivering there in Sept. I've polled my friends & cousins and all 4 of them that gave birth there in the past year & a half all had really positive experiences, so I'm happy to be going there. HTH

I delivered there 2 1/2 years ago and have nothing but good things to say about my experience. The rooms are small but it is only for a few days. I will be delivering there again in November

Re: Good Sam- for those that will deliever and have delivered there
god sam was fantastic! i had a c-section there about 5 weeks ago! i had made many many trips there through out my pregnancy but i have to say not one complaint! im a nurse myself so im usually very critical of the staff and they were all amazing! they were so ontop of my pain management. they answered any and all questions!
were the rooms small. YES! i had tons and tons of visitors and would have LOVED my own room. which actually happened for 3 out of my 4 nights i was there! the day i got there my roommate was leaving so i had half a day with a roomie and then the last night i was there i had a roomie. but it was totally doable!

I will be delivering there in Dec.
I delivered my son at Southside and hated it.
I've been to Good Sam with him quite a few times, and have had good experiences with their pediatrics dept.

Re: Good Sam- for those that will deliever and have delivered there
Glad to hear all the good experiences. I worked briefly on the Maternity floor recently and I got a lot of negative feedback. Also my sister and friend just delivered there within 6 months and hated it.
I begged my Dr. To let me deliver at Southside but he wants me where the good NICU is b/c I'm having twins.
My issue is mainly the small rooms. It's hard to even move with the baby in the room and one other person. They have 2 private rooms which are very small and hard to get. b/c I'm havign a scheduled c/s, I'm more cranky about it being there for 5 days vs if it were a vaginal delivery, 2 days would be no biggie.
They also tend to become PACKED and often have to place patients on the 4th floor. My sister and friend both were on the 4th floor while their babies were on the 5th floor..their babies were in the NICU and they couldnt get up there to see them b/c they needed a nurse to take them and the nurses were too busy to do so.
Anyway, None of them said the experience was horrible just not as they had hoped. I hope to have a good experience regardless though and know what to look out for etc.

Re: Good Sam- for those that will deliever and have delivered there
After so many good reviews I feel bad posting a negative one but you should hear both sides.
I delivered there March 2008. The delivery nurses were great. But on the maternity floor I did not have the best experience. A lot of that was due to an awful roommate. And as others have said the rooms are VERY small. When I was there they were overflowing. Some people were on beds in the hallway and didn't even get rooms. The private rooms were taken and there was no room to switch too. My roommate and her DH had ridiculously loud cell phones and they rang all night. I'm talking two and three in the morning. She also kept the lights on and TV on really loud pretty much all night and her DH kept sneaking back in after the nurses asked him to leave for the night.
One of my biggest complaints is that their buzzer system only shows the room not the bed. My roommate buzzed all the time so the nurses NEVER came when I buzzed. I had a vaginal delivery with an episiotomy and they never checked my incision to see if it was healing right and forgot to tell me about the numbing spray I could use to lessen the pain. My DH had to hunt them down so I could get ibuprofen.
I wasn't happy with the experience and not thrilled with the nursing staff. I've actually switched OB's so that I can deliver at Southside with my current pregnancy.
